The name said it all, well at least for about the first two hours or so. Temps in the 20's with a bone-chilling breeze to start the morning was a bit tough. However most who brought enough clothes combined with the bright sunshine, got steadily warmer thoughout the day.

Though we all had fun, I think some of the ladies had a better time at this event than at any autocross ever. Mrs. Allen put the smack down on quite a few of the men (myself included) and grabbed 3rd place wood in the S04 class. Lots of laughter could be heard from Malia and Kristen as they crossed the finish each and every time. I'm not sure if anyone had a better time than those two.

In the other two classes (SU2, and S02) the rentals ruled. Stephen Westerfield took 1st in SU2 in the "right-front-tire-air-challenged" '04 Pontiac Grand Am. Someone who shall remain nameless kept the other driver of car (me) from completing his last three runs so we'll never know how things could have stacked up. :whoknows: Matt Thompson drove the '03 Dodge Status to victory in SO2 even after losing a bead on the left front tire. I guess you did need to check the pressure in those tires huh? :brow:

The infamous "Whitney Beater" also did quite well in SU2 with four drivers. I think I heard it saw almost 50 runs total! Apparently everyone who drove it was too heavy since they had to remove a few items to lighten the load. Who needs a hood, trunk lid, passenger seat, or back seat anyway?

The S04 class was more like an all Subaru Challenge. No surpise as Mr. Allen took home the 1st prize...probably cause he's practiced for hours on end.

This was my second attempt at Rally-X and it begs the question "what could be more fun than this!?". If there was someone driving that didn't have an absolute blast I'd like never saw or talked to them. Even with the bitter temps everyone seemed to have a great doing it in the dirt.

Thanks for all your hard work Carl, Kevin, and everyone else who helped make this happen. We all had a great time and I can't wait to do it again! :woo:

Also wanted to add thanks to everybody who made this happen - especially my mom! :D

And congratulations to James Feinberg for being faster than my wife. :P

Also wanted to say that after I blazed out there on my first run and almost spun the car 2 or 3 times, I realized that things are a lot different when you have cones defining the course. I had done a few 80% runs without the cones to check the course flow - and to stay entertained during the ice storm, hehe - but it's not quite the same when you can't drift off course by a hundred feet or so! Sorry about all the "I'm going to be full throttle by right here" during the course walk, Tom & Miranda! I think I was only full throttle about 2-3 times per run.

I actually rode with Christine on her 3rd run in the afternoon to get the in-car experience with her... then I just drove the same lines (well, modified in a couple places) and added a little more gas.

Well, anyway - thanks everybody, and we'll see you next time!

Kevin

I had a lot of fun yesterday, especially beating Tom Hoppe! :P

Kinda wish I had slid around a little more because it was fun, but apparently that was the slower way around the course.

Sorry about the dog running through the course during fun runs, next time we'll either keep him inside or tie him up at Mrs. Allen's house.

Can't wait for the next one - I like this a LOT better than autocross!!!

And Carl, just let me know if you want me to help out with organization and/or working on getting new sites. I'll be glad to do what I can.

Thanks,

Christine

Miranda and I both had a blast as well!

The Sti was definetly fun to drift around. I don't think I had the car straight the entire time out there. Here a couple of awesome photos a fellow nasiocer took.

Ruts? what ruts? I didn't make any ruts?

I too have to say thank you to everyone who helped put this event together!!! I must admit that I wasn't sure how I would do on dirt!! But in the end it didn't matter!!! I had the best time... As I am sure all the workers could tell as I passed by laughing my head off!!! (I hope that makes up for all the cones that I took out.. Just couldn't keep it between the cones..)

I can't wait until the next event!! What is everyone doing next weekend???

Since the results aren't on the website yet, here are the scanned sheets from the table next to the bus. Snagged them before they were thrown out...

I converted all of the images to links, so if you want to see them, click on them.

Those images were taking a while to load on my highspeed connection, I feel sorry for anyone that tried to read this on a dialup.

Keep the rules in mind when posting, specifically:

Whenever possible, place a link to your image instead of using inline images. "
