We're planning to have our first event of the 2004 season on January 31st at Kevin Allen's mom's field in Four Oaks, and we hope you all will attend! Those of you who skipped the last event no doubt heard what a good time you missed!

Here are a few suggestions I can make to help make this an enjoyable event for you:

- The course will likely develop deep ruts, so lowered vehicles are not a good choice. Fortunately, the dirt is soft and there are no rocks, so the risk of car damage if you do bottom out is very low.

- You will be standing outside all day in January, and there will be no place to warm up or take shelter from the elements. Please make sure you are dressed adequately for the weather conditions.

Event info and online preregistration are now available at http://www.thscc.com/rallycross/events/2004/2004-0131info.html.

Thanks, and we hope to see you there!

Hmmm.... I can't seem to get the pre-registration to work Carl. I get a passcode error but was never prompted to enter it. Besides I don't have the passcode if I did :? Can you send me the passcode via PM please?

Here is a clarification of how we measure the tread on tires. Please note that there are street legal, and also street tire class legal, tires, that are illegal. So be sure you check your tires. I'll be bringing my digital calipers. The width of your tread will be written on the tech sticker that goes on your windshield.

Most tires are in the 17-18 hundredths of an inch range. But if yours are over 22 hundredths, that's too big!

OK, fixed a little boo-boo in the prereg, so now it should be prompting you for the passcode.

And since the forum is restricted to members only, I guess it's safe to let you all in on the secret code: 8)

JAN 01

Have fun!

Anyone know if Azenis are legal from being measured last time?

Sonya plans to run this time in her car and I need to know if I need to swap out the tires. :help:

not sure about Azenis, but another popular tire, the Kumho MX, was not legal.

So that's why the MXes were so much fun on dirt & gravel! I figured it was the big gaps between the tread, but I never actually measured them. I just remember the car being a lot more stable accelerating out of corners on dirt roads when I had them on there, though.

:D

Harbor Freight has calipers for as little as two or three dollars. I think that's an affordable price for most of us to pay.

$2 calipers http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=7914

$3 calipers http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=31929

$20 digital calipers http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=47257

Your tread should be seven 32nds wide, or less.

Just wanted to let everybody know that we may be having a cookout after the rallyx if enough people are interested. Mike Whitney had suggested we do this, and I got the okay from my mommy, so reply if you're interested. I have a couple of freezers at my house where you can store your stuff during the day, if you need to. We only have a couple of small charcoal-powered grills, so somebody may need to bring something bigger/ gas-powered.

Also - Carl is planning to find somebody to bring us some food during lunch, just like last time.

Any questions?

I will be there...sorry Anders no truck this time! :)

I'll be bringing out the Jetta, which has nearly as much ground clearance but happens to be hindered by nearly bald Azenis.

Due to slow entry subscriptions for the January 31st rallycross in Four Oaks, we have decided to allow pre-registered club members to invite two or three non-member guests to participate as well. Guests will need to get the event passcode from their member sponsors. Event info can be found here.

If someone were to show up in....oh, let's say maybe a rental car (compact: neon, cavalier, sentra, etc....), what are the chances that the tires might not be legal?

I can just picture the rental guy watching a bunch of people walk around his lot measuring the cars' tires - and standing there thinking "wtf?"
