I'll back this up with my car. I have a '98 with 176K and aside from an oil leak from one of the cam seals or crank seal and a bad CV boot (easily fixed with Kevin Allen's expertise), I've had no problems.

Aside form the Kerry/Edwards sticker on the bumper, it looks like a good car!!

You should buy this car PJ!!

The 2.2's are bombproof. They may occasionally seep some oil but they _very_ rarely blow head gaskets. The 2.5's, especially the early dual-cam 2.5's, had lots of problems with head gaskets. The newer cars (post-2000? Kevin Allen knows the full details) have basically solved the problem although it's still recommended to add the sealant gunk (from the dealer, not the stuff from Auto Zone) every time you flush the system.

$350 is dirt cheap. Could be a candidate for a 2.2 or 2.5 swap. I think the 2.5 is a direct plugin with the 1.8 electricals this car has.

Of course the rust is a little daunting :)
