Rallycross sounds like a ton of fun, and its something I'd love to try, however, my mazda and my wife's mini aren't exactly appropriate cars to rallycross. I DO however, have my beater truck, a 1997 Ranger 2WD. Sorry in advance for the dumb question, but are trucks allowed at rallycross events?

Sure. A RWD will be teh suck, but yes they are allowed.

I'm aware it would be a really shitty vehicle if I'm trying to actually compete, but I just thought it might be fun to try sometime in a vehicle that I already have, to see if I should start stashing $ away for a better suited rally beater or whether its not my thing.

Start stashing away money now. Really.

I'd highly recommend polling for a rent-a-ride in one of the rally beaters out there, and lean on your truck as a last resort to come out and play with. That said, I think of any of the sites, the next OCS event would be the best site for a rear driven 1wd truck of any we currently run.

if I can get the clutch replaced by then, I might come and try it, although the wife isn't exactly supportive of the idea. . .

She doesn't need to know.

"Hey honey, why is the truck so dirty?"

I think you should bring out the truck. If nothing else it will be HUGELY entertaining, and all day long you can keep yelling "YEEHA" and "HEY Y'ALL WATCH THIS".

Seconding the idea of finding a FWD rental, unless doing poorly is an actual goal of yours... :-)

Not like THAT has never been done before. :)

Don't let them tell you RWD sucks. RWD is a ton of fun in the dirt. So what if it's not the fastest way around the course. :)

We don't officially endorse the idea, but you are free to bring a car from where you want.

Not that I've ever done that or anything.
