Who's going? If you liked the courses we had at the last rallyx, you'll be blown away by Oakland Acres.

36 entries so far! Much better than last year.

That Orion Fairman guy with the 2.5RS looks like trouble from results in his local events. Maybe a few others, too; don't know their names, so I can't google them. Anybody got two big bottles of NAWSSS I could hide under the back seat?

Anybody from THSCC besides Christine and myself going?

This event was alot of fun last year! And the course is great.
I'm down @ Roebling this weekend, otherwise I would go.

Chris mentioned he was thinking of going though.[/i]

If that Havspeed entry is Andrew Havas (http://www.havspeed.com), then he's fast. He won the MaxAttack Challenge at the Olympus Rally last month in Washington State in his RWD RX-7, and was on pace to repeat at STPR last weekend until a fuel pump problem ended his day.

He's also a very talented mechanic (he built Matthew Johnson's latest cage - see Havspeed website above, scroll down for March log entries), and a first-class nutcase (language warning!)...

It's still undefeated. :redcool:

Christine & I went, Chris Suich and a friend of his went. Chris looked really smooth from what I saw, and he said he was only 3 seconds slower than Rob Bergstrom on single times today. Damn good, especially considering what he had to work with. Rob was 2nd to me overall by around 10 or 12 seconds, and we were the only two who were faster than 17 minutes. I think that Orion ended up being 3rd overall/ 1st in Prepared AWD, but way behind Rob. Not sure where Havas ended up. Results probably won't be up for a few days, and there was no trophy ceremony. People just hung out an talked for a while, then left for home.

We got 9 runs, 3 each on 3 different courses. Started really late yesterday due to disorganization (obligatory "be thankful you're a member of this club" here), so we only got 1.5 stages completed (AWD & 2WD ran Stg1, then AWD ran Stg2). Finished the other 1.5 today. I'm pretty sure it was the most fun rallyx I've been to. The first course was really technical, then the 2nd course was just loads of fun & really fast, and they added part of the practice course from last year onto the beginning of that for course 3. Fastest times to run the courses were from 1.6-1.9 minutes. I jumped to a 10-ish second lead on Stg1, so I was able to dial it back a little on the next two & just try to be clean and smooth, but I decided to go for everthing on my last run of the event, setting the fastest time on that course by a few seconds, I think, with THE best rallyx run I've ever had. It was one of those runs where you don't get adrenaline shakes until about a minute after you've stopped the car. Fun, fun, fun. :D

Oh, and the SCCA marshal who came down to oversee the event walked up and started talking to Rob and me yesterday while everyone was just milling about. I introduced myself and told him that I used to be a rallyx vp for THSCC. I got to see "the look" for a moment, then he turned slightly away from me and started talking more to Rob. He did eventually warm up & came over to talk to me a lot while I was working the course - he was napping off and on in the shade by my worker station.

Andrew Havas was very entertaining while we were working the course. We had adjacent stations, so there was some banter back & forth, and he made a lot of funny comments throughout the work assignments. Cool guy.

Anything to add, Chris? :D

Oh, I also wanted to point out that the comment about disorganization above was in no way criticizing Mark Hoerath or the other 2-3 guys who do the organizational work at their events. It's just that they really need to get more people involved and start delegating things.

Mark should be at our event next weekend, so please go out of your way to let him know that you heard he did a GREAT job with the event at Oakland Acres. And please let him relax as much as possible, because he deserves it.
