Don't be on the fence, most fences are pointy on top so being up there can be owie and stuff.

We've got an engine stand if you need it for the rebuild. We are not Honda experts, but Chuck has rebuilt his share of motors (and he OK'ed me donating his time to your cause  ) and I know how to chase down a tool, so let us know if you need any help on that! :D

Why is this going to be your last Rallyx? :?:

Simple. I'm tired of all the beatings. I spent literally 3 times as much for my RallyX car as I did for my AutoX car and I've got nothing to show for it. I keep trying to improve but I just don't think it's getting me anywhere. I figure, hey, what's the point in continuing, right? I thought about adding a turbo and some big mud tires to help but I think the real problem is me. I just can't take it anymore! Jim

smartass!!!!!! i resemble those remarks. 8) hope to see you back out soon.

i get back in town 05-11-07 late. but i suppose sooner or later i need to man up and help out.

That is true. I have a hoist, stand, just about every hand and power tool you might need, and I was trained at Wake tech for this very thing, well maybe better suited to a bulldozer but whatever :)

Thanks Chuck and Ash!

I've already got most if not all the tools I need so I should be good there. I've already got my engine stand set up in my living room so I'm almost ready to go. I just can't figure out why I'm still single, though.

I think the actual engine build won't be that bad although any tips for the novice mechanic certainly wouldn't hurt. I'm going to be doing a basic "Minime" which is adapting a SOHC VTec head to a D16A6 block and it is well documented on the 'net. The only potentially tricky part is that I want to run some JDM (yo!) pistons which should bump my compression to ~12:1 depending on what head gasket I wind up with. Some of it will be a little uncharted since I want to try and optimize the power band for low-end torque and that isn't something the regular Honda crowd usually goes for. At the very least, if I blow something up, I can always fall back on the stock motor I'll be pulling since I got a spare for the buildup.

The part I'm not so sure about is adapting my Megasquirt to a Honda. I had it running on my old MR2 but I was able to follow somebody else's install so it wasn't too bad. I haven't seen anybody adapt one to a Honda yet so that will be interesting. If I was smart, I would just use one of the chipable Honda ECU's and be done with it but that is way too easy. I always try to give myself as many opportunities as possible to screw something up! :D

Megasquirt on a Honda, that ought to be interesting!

So, if we were going to head anywhere near the direction of the original topic, has a co-chair been officially picked?

(Sorry for my contribution to the delinquency of this thread  )

Yup, it's Jim!

Jim, hold off on that engine build until after the event so you have time to chair the event :)

Last call - Any inexperienced event chair who is interested in being a protegee, feel free to come out to BMW farm at 4pm tomorrow (Sunday) to meet up with Bret, Carl, and me -- we'll be scoping out whicj field to use.

First pass draft - we may not actually have this entire area: (I call this BMW-South)

For reference, the field we "used to" be able to use (I call it BMW-North)
