So I've been thinking about how much time this would save in planning, preparing & repairing courses in our field, and I just wanted to get a feel for how people would like or dislike a pair of semi-permanent courses. Like Oakland Acres, it would be pretty much the same flow every time - but unlike Oakland Acres, there would be variations bigger than just the exact cone placement on the apexes. There are a few areas out here that don't rut horribly every time, and I'd like to utilize those instead of the places where it gets 2 feet deep (and I think we've got those all identified, too  ).

And since we have two other sites now, I don't really think running the same course twice a year would get boring too soon. Plus, with two courses, we could run each forward and backward and not run the same configuration in the same direction in the same season.

If you're concerned about how much "practice" I'd get on those two courses, I'll run X class or whatever at our place. :D

So what think ye?

Taking into account your "2 other sites" comment, I think this is a great idea to simplify things.

speaking for those of us that baked our short term memory abilities, many many years ago, i am all for a semi permanent course layout.

besides, that would distance us further from that tarmac based, cone intensive, bank account cow we all love to hate.

I am all for a semi-permanent course setup.

That sounds fine to me. I was just wondering how mowing, course setup, etc. would be happening this year. One thing I would like, though, is for the entire field to be mowed short before the first event, if that's possible. I'll volunteer some come over and put some seat time in on the tractor for you if that'd help.

Thanks Kevin!

If you had unlimited time and patience to mow and repair the course, I'd vote against a standard layout. But if it will make your life easier, no problem! You're the boss of the field :)

Please make it fast and stay away from tight (ruttable) corners. It would be nice to have some areas where a slalom could be changed to a faster sweeper, etc, but I'm sure you have already thought of that :)

I liked the setup you had at the last playday a few months back. That was nice :)

I like the idea of having a permanent course. Since we are trying to add new venues we will not at each site as many times during the year, so the boredum factor should be down. It also gives you a chance to better yourself each time you visit... kind of like to a karting place. Each time you visit you can compare your time against your own prior times.

I have no doubts the master RallyX'er will design a fantastic course.

That's an enormous part of the prep work that I'd be saving by having the semi-permanent courses. So, uh... no.

But the ruts may be repaired by then, if that helps. :D
