That's why Rally is so fun to watch. To bad we don't have these kind of event here, i would like to try it. The closest thing might be Hillclimb, i need to try that one day.

If it's tarmac rally you want to try, might I point out NASA's Rally Tennessee in nearby (as these things go) Nashville. Great roads, and fast too. People right here on this forum can vouch for it: Anders drove it in 2004, I codrove it in 2005 with Andrew Frick, and Simon codrove for Andrew this year.

Unfortunately they seem to have taken all the useful information off their website, but it's been held on Labor Day weekend for the past few years. Someone from this area is always going (I suspect Simon will be driving in '07) - you should go along and check it out.

I'll probably be there navigating for Kent Davis. This would be our first tarmac event and I'm just a touch nervous...

Interesting Carl, I check the rules book quickly, I will need to turn my roll bar in to a roll cage first before I can try it.
As for class my car seem to meet the Mod 1 class. I don't see any mention of Min. weight for that class??
compare to other class, is it correct? Also I will need to find some rally equipments, I might have an old Halda Tripmaster
in a box somewhere but I think it will not be up to task. Also the main thing, I will a need a co-pilot????
Like I said I'm thinking about an Hill climb this year, I think they are using the time trial rules and I should be OK with only a roll bar.

Yes, you would definitely need a full cage (and a good one) for rally. I'm not too expert on the NASA rules, but if you intend to rally you will need to become an expert yourself. Same is true for hillclimb- familiarity with the ruleset is essential.

I'm not sure if the rules require a codriver or not, but the stage roads are too long to memorize, and there is no practice- you would be too slow driving based on what you can see. Having a codriver feeding you information is key to both safety and speed. Hillclimbs don't require a codriver because there is only 1 road, it's shorter, and you get to practice.

As for rally equipment, if you are using stage notes (and I expect you would be) the codriver rarely even uses the computer during stage. It's basically only used on the transits, and a Tripmaster would be fine I'm sure. You'd want some big lights, though, because some stages are typically run at night. Even if an event says there are no night stages, delays can (and do) happen so that some or all of the cars end up running in deep dusk or dark conditions.
