Since this is a non-points event, Carl can we just run all the 2WD cars in one class? Our 1.6L ain't skeered of no 3.0L. The only way Walter's car would ever be light enough to be fast, is if he removed the engine, then got out and pushed it.

Well, we could, but I'd have to change the classes and reassign all the 2WD cars after doing the web download. I was sort of hoping not to do a lot of extra work for this event, beyond whatever new issues might turn up with this site...

Just a quick heads-up while I'm thinking about it: I don't know how many spectators we'll have on Sunday, but I know I've been telling folks to bring a friend to the event, and OCS has also done some kind of publicity/announcements (not sure what exactly), so for the first time at a THSCC rallyX event, we may have a good number of people milling around who aren't associated with any particular car/driver.

Consequently, I'd advise you all not to leave your valuables laying around in the open as you may be in the habit of doing currently. And if you're pitted near someone else who looks like he's taking a chance in this regard, you might want to let him know as well. Let's keep our eyes open and not have this debut event marred by some preventable incident.

Thanks.

What a bummer! We had to cancel the event- our first time ever! We set up a great course on Saturday in beautiful weather, then got up this morning to pouring rain. Still, we run our events "rain or shine", so we got out there and started setting up.

As competitors started to arrive, we got our first inkling that it was not going to be a good day for racing. At least 1 person (cough...mikewhitney...cough) got his tow vehicle stuck in the totally flat pit area! The course we so soft and wet that water would puddle around your shoes with each step. A few cars went out on course for test runs, and they were barely able to even maintain forward progress, it was so bad. We were facing the prospect of pulling the 2WD cars out of the mud all day and the 4WD competitors not having any fun, and digging huge ruts in this pristine field, effectively ruining our first choice of course designs!

By 8:45 we had probably 25 competitors there (and no spectators), which we figured was about all we were going to get. We convened a drivers meeting and decided to cancel the event. Some folks drove more than 3 hours to attend so I felt really bad about that, but everyone seemed to agree it was the right decision.

Of course in this case we were surprised by the forecast (showers were supposed to roll through Sat night but be dry today), but now we know that this field just won't tolerate any heavy rain for at least 3-4 days before an event. When that happens in the future, we'll save ourselves some time and cancel the event in advance.

We may try to schedule our Dec 3rd event there as a make-up, but we haven't decided yet. Watch this space for updates!

Breakfast was good. :) Seriously, not running was the best thing. I hope you have one on the 3rd.
Ashleigh and I talked to Kim while we were looking around the track and she really sounds excited about having the events. She said some people(spectators) had even called in to check and see if it was still on.

Hey that was just where I decided to park :) I did think I was stuck, but once I got the hang of the throttle pedal (drive by wire and a well isolated drivetrain make for difficult modulation) I was just barely able to get out unassisted!

Oh and Carl, when you first told me "We were going to cancel" and I somewhat incredulously said "WHY?!?!?" I didn't realize that the site person was standing right there. I wouldn't have been such a jackass had I realized that :)

That's OK. As you may have been able to tell, Kim is really friendly and has a great "let's do it" attitude. I think the fact that so many folks showed up there, and were ready to run, on a truly crappy day showed her that we shared that attitude, and your comment was completely consistent with that.

Is there any chance that they could bail the cut grass next time? If they did that, it could really help out with the field drying up.

You will have to excuse me as I have been fortunate enough to not have to do either....

I think Bret is on a roll with some of these witty comebacks.

Maybe a little over the top, but funny nontheless.
