The Beater needs new tires... one of the knobby re-caps on the front came apart.
The million $ question... Is anyone from SU2 planning on running in NU2 next season. The last few event have just been me and Chris competing against eachother.
If everyone is staying in NU2 then we'll get some street tires so we can play.

Keith

I have yet to run, but I bought a set of SP60s just to compete in SU2. So as long as the events are on sunday or I can get saturday off there will be another SU2 car there*

*Assuming no more breakage. :)

AFAIK The General Lei crews plans to stay in SU2 as well. And if Eric Adams would move to NU2 we might have chance. Damn SE-Rs!

I think Keith meant to say if everyone is staying in SU2

Vincent,
What size tire do you run on the General Lei?

Honestly I can't remember. Stephen ordered them so maybe he knows. I do know that we run the Dunlop SP-60s that I believe Walter also does on The Dog. It's a very good tire for the money.

It's either a 175/65/14 or a 175/70/14, I can't remember for sure.

Just FYI, but if you're looking at 2 suitable sizes for a tire (e.g. a 175/80R14 or a 195/65R14 - I just made those sizes up so tire geeks stay away!), I'd go for the wider one, down to maybe 60-series or so. A wider tire will help you stay on top of a loose surface. In "real rally" they sometimes choose a narrow tire to "bite" through to the hard surface underneath the gravel, but since we don't have any gravel sites, and there's no hard surface underneath, there's no advantage to that idea. Reason to stay at 60-series or above would be to protect the rims from damage.

Hope that helps.

Not arguing with Carl, but that isn't necessairly what we found. At one of the events last year (might have been the first event that we used the area off to the right at the Allen field), we had been running 195's on the front of the Sentra. We were having trouble getting grip and swapped on some 165's that we had and there was a noticeable improvement. That was our reasoning behind going to a 175 this year vs a 185 or 195. We've been happy with our selection so far.

Maybe for you, but in the General the opposite is true. We found the wider tires spin on the loose stuff up top. The more narrow ones "dig" better.

Well y'all have certainly been going real fast lately, despite me having 50 more HP (though I am driving a Chrysler product, which I hear is a handicap), so it's hard to argue with your logic...

Don't you guys run 50+ psi to keep from debeading? Seems like that would reduce the benefit of a wider tire to make grip, while the smaller contact patch of the skinny tire would "push" harder on the ground.

Nope...mid to high 30's with tubes.

Tubes, damn. I should have thought of that when I had my tires mounted.
Well, if debeading should be an issue, I will do that.

Tubes=Goodness. No debead problems after installing these last year. Spent a bunch of time cleaning dirt out of the beads prior to that, though.

And while I have no suggestions on a GOOD tire to use, I'd recommend staying away from clapped out, auto-x leftover Sumitomo HTR-200's summer tires. Good for dirt they are not. But you probably could've figured that out.
