Time for this event to get its own topic. I talked with Mike Whitney last night, and he's agreed to chair the event. We were also talking about the logistics of the "3 tier" system we've been assuming we'd use, and he's about convinced me that it'd be better not to do it that way.

If I understood it right, the new plan would be to have 1 fixed set of instructors, and we'd split the students into 2 groups with 1 group working at any given time.

That means a big change for folks who were planning to be in the "middle" group before. Now you would have to be either an instructor or student, and I hope some of y'all are willing to be instructors 'cuz otherwise we're way short. If we can get enough bodies, though, we may be able to work things out so you could do both- so you would be a student in 1 group and an instructor in the other. We'll keep y'all posted on that. But if you're willing to be just an instructor, please email or PM me to let me know so we can get the ball rolling. Otherwise, if you were going to be in the middle group, expect to get an email or phone call from me this weekend.

That said, here's our current potential instructor list:
  • Kevin Allen - yes
  • Me - yes
  • Rob Bergstrom - yes
  • Matthew Johnson - no
  • Mike Whitney - yes
  • Jim Feinberg - don't know yet
  • Eric Adams - yes
  • Brian Herring - yes
  • Keith Vail - yes
  • Simon Wright - yes
  • Kevin Hoff - no
  • Andrew Frick - yes
  • Charlie Guthrie - don't know yet
  • Mitch Moore - no
  • Vincent Keene - don't know yet
  • Ryan Holton - don't know yet
  • Mark Hoerath - yes
  • Phillip Redd - no
If your name now appears above but you really wanted to be a student at this school, then please tell me so. This is intended to be a school for all levels of students. If it looks like we'll have enough people where you could do both then we may approach you again, but for now we're asking you to choose 1 or the other.

Thanks, and I hope I made that clear enough. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me and/or Mike.

edit: Somehow left Vincent off the list... sorry VK!
edit: add Mark Hoerath; update instructor statuses
edit: added Phillip Redd and Ryan Holton

FYI I have sent out an email to the currently registered participants. I'll be posting some more info here as the details get settled.

Carl, add Ryan to the list of possible instructors, and let's start nagging him. That and I want to hear from Vincent!

Hey Vincent and Ryan! Come out and play!

Should I still be bringing the Legacy since I will be helping instruct? I just figure if it is not going to get used much if at all it isn't worth the extra headache of dealing with the truck and trailer.

Well as I'm the chair of the school I plan to ask instructors to include demonstration as part of the educational experience :)

Instructing is a lot of work, and we plan to have plenty of opportunities for instructors to play! Probably for a while in the morning before course walks, and time permitting during the mini-event in the afternoon runs.

So yes! Plan to bring out your rallyx car. I hope that students will be getting 8-12 runs total, and instructors should be able to get at least 6. If our headcount holds at 32 or so, this should be possible.

Final overall schedule, student/instructor pairings, and student/instructor curriculum info will be sent out no later than Thu PM.

Oh, so under that guise, i am assuming that instructors are getting a free rallyX or something to compensate for the lack of runs then and they are paying the same amount.

:)

I have requested that instructors do not pay. It's up to the VPs :)

At our current student headcount, we would lose money, but I think it's worth it.

Bah. I will still pay. I was just wondering if there was a creative solution to that. :)

How about we take the instructor's fees and use that to buy a rallyX tire mounter?

We're still going over the costs- if we're talking about a small loss (like less than $100) then I'd be OK with it. I do think the instructors should get in free if we can swing it, since they're not really going to have any pure "play time" as we're currently planning it. They should be getting some seat time, but we'd like them to have students riding along for those runs.
