Here is what I just sent all the registered entrants:
Hi All -
Thank you for signing up for the Rallycross School this Saturday, August
5th, at Kevin Allen's place in Four Oaks, NC. We have a fun and
not-to-stressful day planned which I hope that everyone will REALLY get a
lot out of.
First some important info:
- Attached is the roster in an Excel spreadheet. Please take a look to
understand who you are paired with. If you cannot read the attachment, let
me know and I will email your info.
- Several advanced students have been signed up to also instruct one
novice -- SEE THE ROSTER, let me know of any problems
- INSTRUCTORS: If you are listed as an instructor on the registration list
PLEASE PLEASE be sure to make it to the event. We have a tight roster (see
attached!) and I need to know ASAP if you will not be able to fulfil your
instructor duties! Instructors with 2 students do not pay.
- STUDENTS: BE SURE that your car is adequately safe for a passenger to be
riding around with you all day. Ideally the passenger seat should have the
same safety protection as for the driver. Make sure all sharp objects in
gutted cars are rendered harmless!
- Please see the roster below, and TRY TO PARK next to your
student/instructor in the morning. Get the education process started early -
ask about car prep, setup, etc.
- Registration is from 8:30 to 9:30
- Lunch will be available at the event (thanks Christine!)
- DEMONSTRATION is a valuable part of teaching, and we plan to have ample
opportunities for instructors to drive -- so instructors bring your
rallycross cars!
SCHOOL OVERVIEW
The school will follow a similar format and schedule as a regular event.
Kevin has set up a simple course for the morning drivers which emphasizes
the basics of rallycross techniques. We have a guest speaker (Mark Hoerath)
lined up for lunchtime, and he will lead a group discussion about what we
are all learning. In the afternoon a longer, more typical course is
planned, and we intend to run a "mini-event" with 3 timed runs. The
afternoon sessions are intended to help teach overall cumulative event
strategy and consistency.
Instructors are usually paired 1:1 with students in each session -- so you
can expect to be riding with one person, on all your runs for the whole day.
The instructors are also encouraged to take their (or other) students along
every time they do a run for demonstration. I do not want to see any cars
leaving the start line with an empty passenger seat! Each
instructor/student pair should determine when the student runs and when the
instructor demonstrates, but instructor runs should mostly happen toward the
end of the sessions. Students should expect to get 5-6 runs in the morning
and 3-5 runs in the afternoon. Instructors can expect to get 3 runs AM and
3 runs PM.
There is no set curriculum, so your you and your instructor should talk
during the day to understand exactly what you are working on and what
instructional style works best for you!
