Besides, I may still be unpacking then.

Just sign up, spaz.

I'm registered but impending very good family changes might make attendance difficult. :D I'll try to remember to unpreregister if necessary.

I was thinking the same thing. I am amazingly not working that weekend. Plus, I have to find a car to co-drive. Are any of the Lee's owners instructing?

How many students can share one car in the proposed format?

Thanks,
Charlie

Hmm, good question. We haven't discussed that specifically, but here's my off-the-cuff answer. If the students are in different tiers (ie. 1 was an instructor) it should be easy to have 1 at each level. Assuming co-drivers in the same tier, though, I'd think any more than 2 would be awfully tough. Even 2 per car would be sub-optimal, but we've obviously got to accommodate that situation.

I believe we were thinking that of the 3 tiers, at any given time 1 would be working, 1 would be instructing, and 1 would be students (except Tier 1 would do "play time" and/or student demo rides instead of being students). So any car swapping that had to happen within a run group could leave a student standing around for longer than they'd otherwise have to. A lot of this will depend on the number of students per instructor as well, and we probably won't have a good feel for that for another week or so.

We'll keep y'all posted on details as they become available!

If needed Carl, I will just instruct and not be student depending on how many students we get and at what level they are at.

Potentially. If not instructing, I will be around.

I have never been a great instructor, so I doubt I will be. I thought about possibly being a student though. There is a 50/50 chance I will be out of town that weekend though, so I am not signing up just yet.

As for who qualifies to be an instructor, that would be based on who they're instructing, I guess. If you're a total noob, then you're a student. If you're pretty decent, then you qualify to instruct the total noobs. If you're whooping butt on a regular basis, then you're a senior instructor.

So who's being asked to instruct? I'm not "whooping but on a regular basis" but with another 40HP and an LSD I just might.

Here are the list of people we're asking to be senior instructors:
  • Kevin Allen - yes
  • Me - yes
  • Rob Bergstrom - yes
  • Matthew Johnson - no
  • Mike Whitney - don't know yet
  • Jim Feinberg - don't know yet
  • Eric Adams - don't know yet
Everyone else would be either an intermediate instructor or a student, depending on experience. Vincent, if you chose to come I'd expect you'd be a top intermediate instructor.

One of the goals of the course was to provide some more "expert" instruction for some of our already-fast regular drivers who still felt they needed to to improve, so that's why we're trying to be picky about who we ask to be in Tier 1. Please don't be too offended by anyone we chose to be on that list, or left off it, as some adjustments may still be needed to even out the groups. These are just my personal assessments, so bring your comments to me offline if you've got any.

Looking at the current entry list, I'd select the following as Tier 2 instructors:
  • Brian Herring
  • Keith Vail
  • Simon Wright
  • Kevin Hoff
  • Andrew Frick
  • Charlie Guthrie
  • Mitch Moore
Chris Suich could qualify as well, but as I said I'd like to see how we're doing with group sizes as we get closer to the event date before setting any of these lists in stone.

Hope that helps some.

I just unpreregistered myself - sorry. There's just too much going on to be away for a whole day at this point.

I don't think I can make it but there is still a slight chance. That may well be the weekend that I get the new motor for the CRX and I need to get the poor thing running ASAP.

Well Jim, please keep me and Kevin posted- we'd like to have you as an instructor if you're available.

Thanks!
