I have found an early 90's (guess) Subaru Legacy L WAGON that is AWD and 5 spd. Has 240k on the clock but looks like my Grandma drove it to the store, where some jackass opened a door repeatedly on the passenger side. Interior is spotless.

They started out asking $950, dropped it to $745 and best offer is wrote on teh back glass. Im thinking 5 bills might take this puppy home

It looks like this:

Should I consider this for a RallyX machine?

Note that the car in the pic is not the car in question (just an example), the car I found is Doo Doo brown.

Kinda fitting....

Go for it. As you have seen an early Legacy is fast enough to win. My 'new' Legacy is a 93 5 speed and it is faster than the automatic was. So as long as the engine still pulls strong and the clutch is good it is good to go. The more AWD cars the better. It means more competition.

Enough to beat an RS :)

IIRC 140ish.... but you should drive Keith's. It is VERY strong @ 240K, and that thing is *easily* a class winning car. Your's should have the EJ22 or EJ22T (oooh turbo), and it would be more than good enough to take FTD SO4. As far as FTD NO4, that is yet to be seen, but I don't think it is impossible.... as long as Kevin keeps getting beat by his wife ;)

IMHO, NA powah for rallyX >> turbo powah (unless it's a BIG displacement turbo [>2.0L]).

Throttle response FTW!

Yea I believe the 2.2 NA was rated at something like 132 bhp. Not totally sure though. The beauty of it is the torque. I could lug the motor down to 2k in 2nd gear and it would pull out beautifully. Anything below that and it needed to be downshifted to 1st. The new Legacy has 226,000 miles. It definitely pulls better than the old one but I think part of that is because the 5 speed gearing is so much better than the other car's slushbox. We will find out if it is capable of winning N04 because Whitney has his OBS and I just got some rally tires in the 14 inch size to see if less height and weight will equal better acceleration out of corners but still have enough grip.

Dude, what the hell! Go for it! If you hate it, some other hack wannabe will surely buy it.

I don't know, 5 bills would go a long way towards a 1.8L swap.
