Here's my two cents:

I really liked the elevation changes and little jumps/camber changes. They added a nice touch of safe excitement.

I thought that everybody handled the "hazards" of the metal pole and deep ditches very nicely. No close calls that I noticed.

I REALLY liked the efficient organization and the earlier finish time. And I especially liked the Simon b-day cake! :D

Overall tho, I didn't like this field. It was sorta interesting in a slow, technical, short sort of way. But it was not exciting like the other fields can be. Maybe I am spoiled by the other courses, but I would prefer longer courses and a trifle faster.

Maybe the pits could be moved to another field, and the combined area used for the course layout?

The pits that were used were separated from the course field by a string of cones... holding down an electric fence wire. I think that was what made the boundary.

There was a fairly significant dip between the field(s) we used for the course and the one we used for the pits, which you may remember turned into a significant ditch by the time it reached the downhill edge of the field. However, we probably could have crossed it safely near the top of the hill, much as we do with the ditch on the other field, and managed to make use of the extra area. Still, IIRC that section was only 60-70' wide, so it wouldn't really add that much area to the course, particularly if we had to cross between sections at a particular location.

Another factor in my mind is that these fields are primarily used for active cattle grazing, and all these annoying fences are there to section off the grass and control the cattle's grazing as part of the operation of farm. So far Bret and Kelly have been extremely accommodating to us, but every time they take down a fence for us it changes their cattle grazing plan. They took down 2 fences in the original field (it used to be 3 sections) and 1 fence in the latest field (the big post being the only part we couldn't easily remove). Frankly, I don't feel comfortable continuing to ask them to take down fences so we can play without having some plan for what our "goal state" is.

That said, there may be other fields we could try, and if we decided that we didn't like the one we used this last time, we could restore the fence, repair the ruts, and be basically back to the same state we were in before the most recent event.

Bret may feel differently about this, and if he does he's free to chime in here and say so, but I for one am extremely grateful for the hositality we've been shown so far, and the more we get the less I feel comfortable asking for more.

Agreed. I think that we can always work well with what we have, and the one 'BIG" field that we DO have could be prepared/repaired better (IF that were allowed -- just an 'off the top of my head' thought) so it could be used more efficently.

Otherwise, having some of our members on the lookout for new locations is always a plus. However, I think that would limit our strained population with the majority of the 7-10 of the drivers being in 3 cars that I know aren't road worthy.

I like the experiementation, but we could always use the school or a non-points event to test 'new' sites and leave the 'original' sites to points events for now?

Just some thoughts.

Anything ever happen with that discussion with Rich about his Uncle's land in Virginia near ViR?
