Well I was checking over the car for the rallycross on Sunday and I came across this when cleaning out the airbox. Now I have checked the airbox after both of the previous events the Legacy has run and just some dirt never this. I guess the pounding from two drivers and the extremely dry conditions made the dirt fly that much extra and packed the airbox full of dirt. Here are some pictures of the air filter. Think it is time for a new filter.

HOLY CRAP.

When I changed my air filter after Oakland Acres, it had mud stuck to it - but the top was perfectly clean, and it didn't look like that. Tim (or the previous owner) removed the intake resonator & apparently forgot to clip the fender liner back in place, so it was pushed up against the tire and the tire wore a MASSIVE hole in it. I don't know how you don't hear that. :? But anyway, even with my ziptie engineering patch job on the fender liner, the mud still made it into the airbox.

k&n type filters great for street. questionable in high dust conditions IMO.
i want so bad to put one on my diesel, but everything i read says they allow dust particles to pass thru. which in my case directly into the turbo. very bad for the turbo.

i may be way off base on this one as i know doodley squat about rally racing.
