New radiator
Oil Change (done every 3k with Castrol GTX 10w 30)
Spares:
- Tranny with 60k on it still in the box it shipped in (grinds when downshifting into 3rd, but doesn't grind in any gear when upshifting)
- A/C compressor with 60k on it (never got around to replacing it, but the compressor bearings went so I got a smaller belt from a non-a/c model and bypassed it. The car came from the factory with 134a, so it's an easy and inexpensive fix.
The background:
The car still runs well. I bought it with 189k from a friend of mine (the original owner) and did all the work on it myself. It gets over 35mph on the highway (as high as 39 once). It's been very well maintained. It burns about a quart of oil every 3k. You'll see very minor blow by only at startup, then it goes away. Otherwise the car runs flawlessly and is very comfortable. I know it weighs somewhere around 2450#.
The bad:
About 8 months ago I was run off the road into a road sign with it. I scraped up the passenger rear door and damaged the rear quarter panel a ton. I pounded some of it out, but it isn't pretty. The was no unibody damage at all and the car is straight and true (I had it put on a lift at a frame shop). I've driven it to and from work, to Pennsylvania twice (once within the last two weeks), and many other long trips. It's extremely reliable, and still drives wonderfully. The trunk and rear passenger door open and close fine too. The interior is in nice shape too with zero rips or tears and new factory mats about 20k miles ago. I replaced the radiator because the old one had a crack in the top, but the car never overheated.
Today I bought a Volvo 850 Turbo Wagon to carry the dog around in, so I can't have 4 cars. This would make an excellent Rallycross project for next to nothing, or better yet an incredibly inexpensive daily driver:
Price:
$500
The radio with speakers was over $220 and I know the wheels can fetch at least $100 by themselves. I just don't have room for 4 cars at my condiminium (even with the 2 car garage)
Here are some quick pictures from today without having cleaned it up:
