well just wanted to tell everyone that the All Terrain Acclaim made it home in one piece, DESPITE what Vincent said!
Thanks to all the guys who pushed it off course....both times, thanks to Brian for letting us use your tools(you better organize those sockets!), and Christine for driving us to the parts store.
AND a big thanks to Joe the K car guru for helping us wrench on it.

Hopefully she'll be ready for next event!

Glad to hear that all went well after the carnage. Plus, did you notice that after all that smack talk from Vincent, the General ended up with the hood up anyway.

See you next time.

I think those were the best pair of courses we've had yet  - quite different (from each other) but each with its own unique challenges. And some serious fast, serious commitment sections in each! Thanks to Kevin for the many many hours he spent planning, designing and mowing those courses, figuring out where the worker stations would be morning and afternoon, and mowing those sight lines to the cones! Then setting up both courses (thanks to Coz for his help!) and handling the major changeover at lunch. Kevin did a lot of work on this event, and it really came out great. Too bad so few folks were there to enjoy it! (31 drivers)

Superb event. Thanks to everyone for their hard work!

Hey Kevin, since you put in like a million hours of work for each event there, what can we all do to help out?

No problem. I like doing that sort of thing. I just wish y'all could have gotten the rest of your runs in. The afternoon course was a ton of fun. If you need any additional help or a space to wrench on it or air tools, my driveway is decidedly empty these days :o .

yeah we took the old motor mount out, but we couldn't get the new one in(we tried to squeeze it with vise grips) I think we may need to borrow a real vise. But I am going to Boston Wed. and wont be back till next week so I'll contact you later about that. I think I'll buy the other motor mount too while i'm at it!

Man, judging the state of the All-Terrain Acclaim, you got the R32 just in time :)

I am still confused as to why you were breaking the axle when that side was unloaded both times. I guess I am just not smart enough to *get it* as I have heard explainations from my "superior intelligence'd" neighbor, but it is just Greek to me still :)

I knew as the words were coming out of my mouth I might have to eat them later. However the General did finish ALL of his runs and still didn't have to use human power to move.

He overheated due to a nut that was spun off the fan motor's shaft. :? We didn't have enough time to hot-wire the fan, so we waited for it to cool enough to get our last 6 runs.

Don't worry, before the next event it will be fixed and re-wired to make sure he can still GIT-R-DONE!

Seriously I'm glad you guys were able to make it home OK in the Acclaim A/T.

Glad everybody had fun. It's a lot of work, but when I see everybody whooping it up & grinning non-stop, that makes it all worth it.

As far as people helping out, the course has to be mowed (and graded in some places) and the cones have to be unloaded and placed. The mowing is the most time-consuming, and the paddock area, grid and right around the bus was mowed twice to get it down to that height. The courses were mowed twice, too, but at a higher ground speed and blade height. The course design has to be tweaked for safety and to avoid rutting, which means more mowing (after a few test runs  ). Afternoon course is setup, marked and taken down. Worker stations are determined and mowed for visibility of cones. There may something I'm missing, but that's pretty much what happens before a rallycross.

Since the course was mowed into the field rather than just set up autox-style on a totally mowed field, there was a lot more planning involved. But there was also a lot less mowing! If people want to help with the next course, we'll need to grade the areas that were run on this time, figure out what to do differently next time and then mow the field for the new course designs. I'm thinking most of it should stay the same, and I have some ideas about what should change to make it even more fun. :D And the earlier we get started, the better. I'll be working on it this weekend (and probably much sooner) if anybody's interested in helping out. Of course, I'll need some time to squeeze a little more fun out of the current courses before making any changes.

Agreed 100%! Both courses were fun and FAST! Kevin really has a niche for course design (AX and RX) despite what some may think. Great job Kevin, and thanks for all the hard work you've put into it.

And last, but not least, if you haven't tried Rally-X you're missing out!

I'll be in Winston-Salem from Friday-Monday, but if you would like me to come over and help before then (or after) give me a holler.

EDIT: Better make it after. I've got to get this painting done before the carpet guys come.

Kevin --- I won't be able to be present on the day of the RallyX, but I don't mind setting up and doing whatever needs to be done to help with the next RallyX. How about starting the eMail list? Stacy and I can get going on the design for the next plaque (with the help of the Event Chairs) and we can go get the 'Administriva' out of the way?

Once again --- great course design! I didn't run it on Sunday, but it drove awesome on Saturday! :)

Joe Dobner is the event chair - if anybody wants to co-chair with him, let us know.

I'll post plans for what's going to happen & when after I check out the damage tonight.

I talked to my mom last night after everybody left, and she said that she's ok with us doing the mowed-in course again in September, but after that she wants the whole field mowed.

Did anyone actually try using the stage notes? How did it go? I read notes to Andrew Frick (VW Sciricco) for the morning course as practice (and intercom check) for next weekend, as we'll be running Rally Tennessee together. It went OK, but I doubt I was telling him anything he didn't already know.

Anyone else?

I read 'em to my wife after I got home. She looked a me like this    when I finished reading them. When I told her what I was trying to do she only looked at me like this

BTW, it was possible to read the notes fast enough without missing anything. I read the first page in about a minute with short pauses for the two "straights". Whether a driver could absorb it and go faster, who knows?
