They're still not pretty (hoping Emmie can help me with that at some point), but they are official.

Index results hopefully tonight.

Thanks Carl and everyone else who put this together!

Side note: Frickin' DNF finish cone. I just grazed it :) Unfortunately I wasn't present at the meeting when Anders warned us all about that slippery spot :) I was actually driving around doing a "range test" on the FM transmitter. That must have been when Anders stopped using the PA!! I was wondering why the sound cut out...

So what was the Bogey time at this event? 90 seconds? So my DNF run a 51.0 run, so "should woulda coulda" my overall would have been 5:18, good for 1st in class and 4th overall. With the DNF I ended up at 31st overall!

Maybe the BMW car *can* be competitive and fun to drive. Need to rethink my plan. It certainly was more fun to drive with better rear tires and no rear sway. Hmm...

Maybe it's time to re-evaluate the DNF cone penalty for rallycross? Maybe a 10 second penalty instead of a Bogey time? Like I mentioned at the event, if you have a DNF from the finish cone, it just turns the rest of the event into fun runs. It's pretty harsh.

This topic seemed large enough and important enough to have its own thread so it doesn't get lost. Please reply here:

Finish Cones of Doom aside, the bogey time still seemed to be a bit high. I, being a complete novice on my first run, got completely off course (while taking it easy, embarassingly enough) between the hairpins, stalled out, restarted my car, reoriented myself, looped back around and completed the course--which I figure is pretty much a worst-case scenario. I still came in 5 seconds under the bogey time. Is it supposed to represent a worst-case scenario?

It's supposed to be a worse than worst case scenario. Look at it this way -- get max lateness on stage 1 of an actual rally and (depending on the niceness of the organizer) you are out. Since rallycross rules are based on rally it makes sense that way.

Not related to the topic at hand:

Kevin, be sure you know that you cannot be excluded at the end of that stage: only at the next MTC or at the end of the leg. So, if you did get max late on stage one, technically they couldn't "force" you out till, generally, the lunch service.

Very true but that's just too much confusion to try to explain in relation to how esoteric rally timing rules relate to how we score rallycross!

--Kevin H.
(I've read the rally rules twice now and competed in 3 events, I still glaze over when I get to that part of the rulebook. Confusing stuff!)
