I think a well-driven RWD car can be as fast as FWD on dirt, we just haven't had one yet.

Andrew Havas springs to mind. He trounced FWD **AND** AWD cars up and down this coast and into Canada a couple years ago on the ProRally circuit in a heavily modified first gen RX-7. The dude was top ten often in that car.

Interesting. I am obviously significantly slower in the BMW than I was in the Corolla. I was wondering if it was just my lack of skills, so Jim F and I swapped cars in fun runs. We both basically came within 1/2 second of each other's best times in competition runs.

I ran a 53.X in Jim's MR2.
Jim ran a 56.X in my BMW.

3 seconds is a lot of time between the 2 cars. It helped confirm that the car, not the driver, is the problem! So obviously I think the *right* RWD car, well-driven, can be as fast as FWD. I was impressed as hell with the MR2. It made it scary-fun-fast while the BMW is just frustrating (but fun!)

Now I'm wondering what to do next on Mr. Oversteer and No Rear Grip. Probably gonna try a change in tires and disconnect the rear bar.

Trucks are allowed unless they're really jacked up. The main thing is will the tires the tires pass our "Street Tire" rule. And for that, friend, you going to need to read some rules.

Well that rules it out then. Since we occasionally brave Carolina Beach I put some Kumho AT tires on last fall. I'd like to try rallycross in the truck but not enough to scrounge up some street tires and a spare set of wheels. Thanks for the info.

Mike I've noticed that BMW E30's seem to be not so great in the wet, even compared to other RWD cars of similar size. Maybe that's translating to the dirt as well. I bet no rear bar would be a big improvement.

Doug, why not run the VR6? Is it greatly lowered? We've had several autocross-prepped cars compete with no issues. I ran my WRX several times and never found a scratch I could attribute to rallyx (and I'm anal)

The Jetta is about 1" lower than stock, front sway is disconnected to help rotate and with that and the bigger tires it rubs the fender liners when pushed. I just don't drive it that aggressively anymore, and since it's my wife's daily now tearing it up would not be a good thing.
