I got a whole bunch of stuff, and it's going to be a while before it's all available, but here are a couple of the crazy man:

and here's Matthew Johnson on SS6:

Kent Davis & Kevin Hoff, same spot:

We worked SS4 same place as last year, spectated 3 other stages, and I got lots of photos from 4 stages & parc expose. This one was even more fun than last year, and last year was awesome. If you missed it, you suck.

Good pics Kevin. Wish I would have gone. Maybe next year.

Nice pix, Kevin! The weather was a lot better than we'd been expecting- it wasn't exactly warm, and some cold rain in the morning tested the workers' mettle, but temps seemed to rise throughout the day, and the sun even came out for a while in the afternoon! And there was no dust, which is always a plus. The conditions were just about perfect for racing.

This was Matthew Johnson's 2nd event in the new WRX, and he was also breaking in a new codriver, Wendy Nakamoto, from California. She hasn't done much codriving before and had never used notes, but she had been practicing a lot with incar footage and was really motivated to do a good job. SO2 rallyX champ Eric Adams was there, though- he is a veteran codriver, and was able to spend some time giving her pointers on Friday night.

By MJ's account she did a great job, and they finished 3rd overall! Considering that they were in a stock WRX, beating many highly modified rally cars, makes the feat even more impressive! He finished almost 10 minutes ahead of the 2nd place car in his class.

Turnout this year was smaller than usual, no doubt due to the recent confusion about the future of the sport in this country, and only 38 cars entered. As usual, attrition was high, with only 21 cars completing all 7 stages. Unfortunately, Kevin Hoff and Kent Davis were among those who failed to complete the test- they retired late in the event with engine problems.

But on the bright side, new member Matt Smith and Matt Robinson did finish the event in their Merkur XR4ti, making this their first successful finish! Great job guys! :-D

I was supposed to codrive this event, but my ride failed to materialize when my driver blew his engine 2 weeks before the event and was unable to complete the repairs in time. Instead I helped Emmie run Stages 1 and 6, and filled in at the start control on Stage 3.

Results are posted at http://www.rallyscoring.com/results/200 ... /index.htm

Does anyone else have stories to share?

The most amazing thing of the whole event was that it ran on time and there were more or less enough workers! The Tarheel/NC-rally group and the Subaru/NASIOC group made up perhaps half of the worker base. Thanks a million everyone.

Kent and I had a ton of fun all the way through SS4, when the car started to develop a miss. By the 5 mile point of stage 6 the car was done -- we had to be towed up a hill, it was missing so bad. We think it was the Catalytic converter but haven't debugged things yet. Otherwise the rally went like clockwork -- I didn't get lost in the notes, Kent didn't go off, I didn't mess up transit timing, and we even had a crew!

Oh, new tires are just as helpful in dirt as pavement... We had run the previous events on used up old Silverstones. I got some new Kumhos from Tire Rack and the overall predictability/grip is incredibly better.

Had a good time. Realized yesterday that Amy essentially worked three entire stages yesterday: MTC at service, in and out, three times, from 9:30am till 6:30 pm. Good jorb!!!!

Opening car was fun. I started out at about 6/10 since my rear diff was making wacky noise (and still is). After a couple stages, I figured it wasn't going to blow up, so I moved it up to about 8/10. Good times. (Opening car's job is the last check of safety and that the course is clear before the competion cars come through. We check for out of place spectators, missing banner tape, strange course conditions...)

It was great to see the Guthries down there at the worker party at the end! Thanks for coming down!

Anders
