Also wanted to say thanks to everybody who helped out and made today the coolest day in the history of our field. I had a great time today, and I know everybody else did, too, because you were all telling me so all day! My mom loved it, and she thought the people were "not rednecky" - meaning, good. She's open to future events out there, so let's get our rallyx program rolling! Oh, she liked her 1st place trophy, too. :D

I'll have pics soon, but it may take a while to get them on the Internet; so you may just have to come look the album next weekend at Laurinburg. I THINK I got at least one pic of everybody, but I may have missed somebody, since I wasn't crossing cars off a list or anything. If I did miss you, I'll be sure to get you next time!

Later...

Kevin Allen
(FTD on the 2nd course configuration - :P )

Anyone know where I can get an Impreza cheap? I'm thinking I missed out on a heck of a lot of fun, but it's fun I'm willing to skip if all I have is the Spyder or the 911. :-)

I'll start car shopping if Kevin can guarantee me we have an event every couple months (think "events require sites"). ;-)

Isn't the 911 AWD?

You don't need an Impreza or any AWD (note the winning vehicle type & that of 3 of the top 10 times). Didn't I tell you could just buy a Neon. :D

The rallycross was absolutly brilliant. I can safely say that it was the most fun I've had in a car for sometime. I can't wait until we can do it again.

And now for the thank you's.

Thank you Kevin for annoying you mother to the point that she finally said "ok, you can let your silly friends come over and play in the field"

Thank you Carl Fisher for wearing about six hats for this event including Rally VP, Event chair, timing assistant, chief cook and bottle washer, etc.

Thank you also to all those folks who assisted in the prep of the field and setup. From generous loans of equipment to just getting out there and doing some hard work you all made this event really happen.

Last but not least, Thanks to Robert Plank for letting me thrash his Neon. :woo:

And in case you are wondering I am seriously thinking about what car to buy for Rallycross and possibly club rally type events.

Here are my Rallycross pictures and movies from Four Oaks...

http://www.wildport.com/Rallycross/FourOaks_200309/FourOaks_200309.html

The first few are of my son, Arun (#49). I have a couple of Vincent Keene (#2) driving Kevin's RS. The final few are of me (#4). And there's a mug shot of Carl looking very happy.

There are three movies (for those with broadband or patience) one of me, one of my son and one of Kevin showing us that his "trial runs" have paid off.

These pictures/movies also show that my son is better at handling my car than he is at handling my camera.

Many thanks to Kevin, Kevin's Mom and the event organizers for a great day.

Simon

Yes. I've even seen full on Rally versions of them. But mine will most certainly *not* be one of them! :)

And yes, Emmie, I know you don't need an AWD. But I'm hooked on the things. In fact, I actually am started to feel like a WRX wagon may be in my future. It will have plenty of non-race use, so it may be the best choice.

For those of you who didn't come out to the Allen Farm yesterday you missed a real "Kick In the Grass". This was a great event, thanks to Kevin and all the others who put in the hard work into the site. :woo:

A few quick points. Carl Fisher can really drive a Neon fast...even in dirt. Mike Whitney is good at every damn thing...even driving an old Civic (with color-matching duct tape) in the dirt. Kevin Allen was faster than me because he and Peter Baio had too much practice beforehand....that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. :blahblah:

But, I absolutely had a blast and I think everyone else did too. I think Kevin's Mom actually enjoyed watching us fools drive around in a big cloud of dust. Some of us created a bigger cloud than others. "Those people" should keep the windows rolled up.

After my first three runs I talked to Anders and told him this was lots of fun, but much more difficult than I expected. I now have new respect for the folks than can do this well hours at a time. You guys rock!

The site was much easier on equipment than one would have thought. The mounds of dirt caused by the ruts were soft and only caused you to go slower when you hit them. Kind of like that parachute in drag racing I expect. No big bumps or anything like that on the course. Unless your car is really low, I think just about anything would work just fine. Obviously you don't *need* AWD because Carl show us hows it's done is a *slightly* used Neon.

Special thanks again to Kevin Allen for allowing me to drive his car. He never mentioned to take it easy, so I had no problem finding the pedal on the right. The car was very fun to drive and makes me want to go buy a Subaru now.

Kevin I owe you and Christine another one now (thats two) so just let me know if there is anything I can do for you. :D

Rallycross rocks! I can't wait for the next event........

Who's that fool in the picture? Didn't he know you should roll up the windows when you go *farming*?

Well whomever he is he'd probably like to buy an 8x10 to remind him *not* to leave the ruts.

Big thanks to all the organizers, workers, and especially Mrs. Allen! We chatted with her a bit, nice lady! My wife and I were only there to spectate (I wanted to see one of these things first), but fully intend to enter our WRX if/when there's another one. Even watching, we had a blast!

I took a bunch of pictures, but we were only there for the second half, but I think I got at least one picture of everyone who ran in the second half. Anyways, here's what we have. The big images in the gallery are half resolution, but if you want the full size image, lemmie know and I'll be happy to e-mail it out.

To Kevin, Kevin's mom, Carl, Emmie, and everyone else involved in getting this event going--THANKS!!!

I had an absolute blast and am looking forward to the next one.

Oh, and this might be the time to remind folks that there is a really nice, fast, AWD Subaru WRX in the for sale forum right now. :D (Yes, mine.) Too many more of these rally events and it won't be for sale any more.

It took me about an hour, but my interior is clean now! (well, as clean as it was before the rallyx) Nothing obvious is broken or leaking, and no new rattles. Yeehaw!

It may take a while, but I WILL post the pics, since there's been enough people bugging me about it.

Vincent, I think that one was my favorite-favorite, but I have a huge selection for you to choose from - one of the benefits of driving the photographer's car. That particular shot hides the big goofus behind the wheel, so I plan to get an 8X12 to put on display and pretend it's me. 8)

edit: I also wanted to add that Peter and I played around in the field last weekend, before it actually turned into the course we all raced on, and the conditions were much different from what we all encountered on race day. I had figured I would disqualify myself since I had been playing on the course, but it turned out that all I was doing was playing in the field, and the course we ended up with was different enough that I didn't feel like I had an unfair advantage (especially with the real rally guys there  ). I know Vincent was kidding (or was he? hehehe) but I just didn't want anybody else to think Peter and I were cheating...

Just wanted to add my thanks, too! Kevin A., Kevin's mom, Carl, Peter B., Mike Winn - great work!

I had a blast, too! I did notice that the SO2 cars seemed to populate the lower end of the field, but that's okay. :) I, for one, never expected to be fast.

Maybe I'll have to come up with an idea for a semi-dedicated autocross/rallycross car (think adjustable coil-overs!)...

I'm waiting (reasonably patiently) for the next one!
