Actually, do I need to remind you that your official work assigment yesterday was photographer? (That means that all the pictures belong to the club now. You did read the waiver you signed, right?) Just kidding :P

Actually, they still belong to me - but the club can buy one-time use rights for the Christmas party.

It may've been Anders, can't remember, but somebody mentioned this weekend that the photos link on our website is empty and that it would be nice to have some photos up. I think it would be a good way to show the different sites and surfaces that we run on, including the rallycross stuff. Any thoughts on that?

Yeah, we've got room to post some pictures of rallycross and autocross, though we don't have enough space to keep accumulating them endlessly.

I was going to put up some of the photos that I'd taken from various events, but I didn't want it to seem like my photos were being posted cuz I'm a webmaster, or imply that that my photos were the "official" photos. Nowadays a lot of other folks take pictures and post them at their own personal sites anyway, so the need didn't seem to be as great anymore. But I do agree it'd be nice to at least have something to put there. I guess I could always put in some links to other people's photo pages- that's egalitarian and doesn't take up any disk space on our server...

So I know there were a few mechanical failures at/after the event. Most cars came away unscathed, including the 6-driver Dirtmaster 1600, the newly unleashed 5-driver Nismobile of Vincent & the Westerfields, and Karl's 3-driver $1000 BMW (driven by three first-timers!). In fact, I believe I heard Travis saying that it was running "better than ever" towards the end of the event :)

I am sad to say, however, that it turns out I had 2 flat tires ... on my fancy new folding bicycle I brought out there!!! The damn cockleburrs poked holes in both of the tubes! I hate those things. I didn't even go ride it in the "bad" section out on the 2nd course!

Other mechanical problems I heard of - Aaron's exhaust fell partly off, the blue Sentra lost a 190k mile CV joint on the way home ("it was just a matter of time" said the owner), Schimmel's clutch cable broke (3 weeks after a clutch job, and after one run - probably not "rallycross" related), and the SU2 2nd place Integra broke the bottom of the radiator (again probably "on its way" already"). Oh, and one car lost a tire (Focus broke a bead).

I think that RallyX isn't hard on (stock suspended) cars, but it definitely WILL expose existing weaknesses - like any form of motorsports.

But I am still truly amazed that the Dirtmaster keeps on running like a top. The owner of the busted Integra even drove it home since Shawn volunteered to tow the radiatorless Acura for him. Apparently the Corolla pops out of fifth gear - not to mention the fact that it's not registered or insured, and has no lights or turn signals. At least the title is still in Bill G's name, so we could have all played dumb for the cops :)

Any other interesting stories from the event?

We *thought* our 10K mile old clutch was toast, but luckily it turned out we just glazed it. I guess 5 drivers doing runs back to back will do that.

Quite a few people heard (literally) that the Team Dirty Rice Sentra had no shocks. As Mike commented we may as well had removed them to save the weight since they were toast. It sounded like someone was beating against the trunk with a sledgehammer. Still we didn't do any visible damage to the shock towers and it was able to be driven home.

Word to the wise: Don't remove those grommets in the spare tire well. When you roll up the windows the dust comes through those holes in the trunk. We had a dust cloud inside the car with the windows up!

That 71HP is a fact, not just a mere claim, and we have the dyno sheet to prove it. And don't forget the all important 91 lb-ft of torque. 8)

I used to do a lot of sailing and such things as catamaran racing before I sold the boats and got into autox. Those huge piles of sand we created in Rockingham started to remind me of three foot swells I'd see after a steady 25 knot wind blew across the lake all day!

Kevin, it might have been me that metioned the lack of photo's on the Home Page photo section. Ofcourse, I still know so little about PC's, Web's and other such devices.

I had just wondered if we could throw a few Pic's up there every now and then. I'm just thinking of less quality work that take's less space.

I was thinking if the photagrapher also sell's his work, he could be offered the chance to put his/her Name or link on the shot for the Chance to buy the Shot at Top Quality.
*************************************************

I would also like to thank Mike W and Shawn and the other 12 owner's of 1600 Dirt Master for leting me "have a Go" of the Rally Cross stuff.

As a first time Rally/Crosser my first Impression is that I should have drove harder, sooner when I was driving on some "Great Stuff" as it turn's out. I had know idea it would go away so far and so fast. As I was on the PA watching folks run, it seemed like within the first 5 run's in the afternoon, I could see the Car's sinking in the Ground.

Sure enough, not as much Fun when you run last. Thought I would just disapear out there. I even was worried about Breaking this $400. car on my first afternoon lap when I came apon what looked like a huge pit. Went through my mind, glad this thing don't have an AirBag as it might deploy.

All in All, a lot of Fun. Thanks for what seemed like 100% chiping in to with 45 folks meybe there. 8) Cool.

I enjoyed the event tremendously! Always a good time beating things up in the dirt.

I will report that I broke all four exhaust hangers on the gti that i had installed just the day before. Much thanks again to Anders for the bailing wire! I also managed to pretty much destroy one of my front strut bearings. Apparently the gti doesnt really like stock springs with full stiff koni reds on it for rallyx purposes. Oh and it also knocked my camber into next week AGAIN. :)

Somehow ill probably be back again next time anyway.
