For all of you that were at the event you already know this but for those who were not, we owe Kevin a very, very big thank you. And, of course, one to his Mom who lets us "resurface" her field!

Lets see, Kevin spent a weekend last week mowing an area for the course.

He spent Friday, with help, setting up some of the cones. Finished the other 125 or more today. But he's not done yet! When I arrived a little before 8 he was already out there marking cones and doing just general stuff.

Then, in between each of the two run groups, each and EVERY time, he took the tractor out to drag the course to reduce some of the ruts. ( Mike Whitney did do it once).

If that wasn't enough at lunch while the rest of us were relaxing in the shade he was out, again with some help, making small changes to the course which is run in the opposite direction from the morning! the only time I saw the man sitting was when he was running!

Kevin, we all very much appreciate the time and extra effort you put into making these events happen. Thank you AGAIN from all of us!

Ron

I definitely second that sentiment! Rallycross is a lot more labor-intensive than autocross from a course-designer/maintainer's perspective! And with Kevin taking on the role of event chair as well, his plate was really full!

Thanks Kevin!

Carl (who feels bad that he couldn't make it to set-up or any of the work days this time)

Thanks to everybody who helped make the event run smoothly - including the two guys that posted above. Lots of people did a lot to keep things moving along, and it's great to be a part of a club where people just see a need & go take care of it.

Big thanks to Kevin & Andrea Hoff, who brought the bus out on Thursday - Kevin also co-chaired, helping set up the course on Friday & change it on Saturday. And thanks once again to the Fredericksons for driving the bus home - I wonder how many times they've done that now?

And thanks to the lunch ladies (Brenda Whipple & Christine Allen) for the on-site dining. It was yummy. :D

Oh, and a free tip to anybody reading this - don't get sunburned the day before you compete in a rallyx. Having your back pressed against a seat while you bounce around through a rutted field is not really that pleasant.

In case anybody spoke to me yesterday & got a blank look or no response at all, sorry but I was a little out of it. Trying to do too many things at once while sunburned, dehydrated & going on 4 hours of sleep does bad things to your concentration level. I promise to be in better condition next time!

But all the work is definitely worth it - sharing something you love to do with a big group of people who also turn out to enjoy it a lot & seeing the smiles (& hearing the maniacal laughter) is a great reward.

See you next time...

Here's my thanks too, Kevin & all.

BTW, I think we have another convert to rallycross: Grae driving the other 2.5 RS had a great time and vowed to do more. He was hot on my tail and finished 6th place just behind my 5th place. I'd better pay more attention next time.

Thanks to both Kevins! The event went quite well and was a lot of fun. If you need an experienced tractor operator just let me know while I'm there; I'll be glad to help. I know how long it takes to mow a course and it's not a short amount of time!

Thanks also to Christine and Brenda for lunch; that's the best solution possible for eating while out there. :)

Kevin, as for the water thing you cannot drink too much. I had over 100 ounces of water on Saturday and still got up this morning a bit dehydrated (Sunday.)

Kevin,

I think you've earned the right to become a "Field Supervisor". That means you don't get to lift a finger anymore, at least not for awhile. You just get to ask for volunteers and maybe supervise some things.

Thanks for all your hard work and I want to also thank Carl and Kevn H. and the others who helped make it happen. But right now, it seems that the bulk of the work is unfairly falling on Kevin, who suffered way more than one man should to help pull these last couple events off. And thanks Mike Whitney for agonizing over the timer to get it to work right in the dust!

Kevin, we've got to get you more help so that it isn't such a burden on you.

These events look like enough work that we need to go ahead and put together a roster of positions and start announcing waay ahead of time what needs to be done.... Kevin- maybe you could put that list together, but it might start to look something like this-

- field mower
- tractor driver/dirt smoother
- course designer
- course maintenance during event day
- bus delivery
- bus retrieval
- etc..

And if you're not getting the support you need, let us know.

Given the success of the Whitney Dirtmaster 1600 rally beater effort (eight drivers in one car on Saturday), I wonder if it's time for another group of thrifty car owners to go in together on a 2nd group rally beater effort.

Thanks everybody! Now let's find another site so we can give Kevin and his mom some relief!

Miles

Yeah, Im a bit miffed at why no one else has take the route to the darkside either. I mean, come on people, we have probably $600 in the Dirtmaster to date (not counting the wonderfull repairs by the Guthrie Gang). I dont think anyone that has drove it was dissapointed. Hell if we get enough Dirtmaster clones, we might even petition for our own class!!!! Call it SSB (Spec Shit Box) :)

[Cheeleader Mode ON] What this really boils down to is: WE NEED PEOPLE TO ATTEND THESE EVENTS Im not privy to all the information, but I cant imagine the club wanting to foot the bill for an event with 32 drivers :( I imagine if attendence doesnt get better, the rallyx program could wither and die. [/Cheerleader Mode OFF]

JUST DO IT....

Yeah, what Ryan said!

And Miles, I'll set up a work day as soon as we get tubes in the tractor tires - which may be today (my mom is handling it, since she's the tractor owner & she's retired :D ).

For those of you saying "I'd like to try it, but not in my daily driver" there are alternatives. A number of us have used rentals. Get two, three, even four people to split the cost (don't forget the extra insurance) and it's pretty cheap. If you don't like that route, I believe the Dirtmaster crowd is selling drives in the Corolla. I've driven it and you'd be surprised how much fun 48 HP can be!

C'mon people, if we don't support this program it will be forced into early retirement and it's too young to do that. :help:
