Larry wants us to drive on the dirt track portion, not the field.Does anyone have opinions on this information? I have not done something like this before, so I dont know what it would be like.

On the oval or in the infield? The oval would be interesting. I don't think the infield is big enough.

(Has anyone begged NCSU for use of any of their 3000ac off Lake Wheeler? The agricultural extension fields. Obviously not while there's stuff planted there.)

Well, that was different. In a good way. Some thought will have to go into course layout to avoid a Sebastian-esq almost-into-the-k-rails spin, and Brian(?)'s (Black legacy #21) clip of a k-rail that nipped part of the wheel bead off (the wheel. the aluminium part.) I looked and it didn't appear to have gotten that close, but the bottom of the k-rail is a ways into the soft sand.

The "reverse" after lunch was insanely fast. I miss the VR6... the peddle, it does nothing. The brake, however, was like I was on pavement.

Here's a few pictures from today's rallyx on the banked oval dirt track in Fayetteville. So many thanks to Charlie for getting us access to the banked track, and to Charlie and Pete for driving the bus the night before and camping out so they could get up bright and early and have a course all set up for us when we got there. (They couldn't set up the night before because Saturday night is NASCAR racing.) And then they tore everything down and drove the bus back.

This was the best course in the past 4 years I've been racing. The dirt was grippy as hell, and the long course had plenty of technical challenges. If you've ever wanted to drive on dirt this venue is an absolute blast. The official results aren't out, but the unofficial fastest time of the day was put in by a newer WRX on street tires.

After spending all day Friday and part of Saturday getting the rear LSD installed in the DIRTBOMB, a shakedown drive revealed badly damaged bearings so it was out of the running. Luckily David Brown generously let me drive his old 2.2L Impreza wagon. I was 2nd in N04 after the morning, but in the afternoon on my last run, 100 feet from the finish line, the car spun and "lightly kissed" something hard, damaging a wheel enough that David couldn't finish his runs :-( Sorry, the new wheel is on its way!!!!

That vw went as fast as it could go. Litteraly, i dont think that car could go ANY faster with me driving her. I was treating like a circuit cross, was fun as hell.
I Was still looking over my shoulder going on to the banking, from start.Just like I would in a track event, just glance over.I almost missed start once, after doing it just before.I almost missed it again, anyone who saw that swerve that what it was for.Sebastien's daughter was hysterical! The morning course was awesome, the afternoon the track came around, dried out, got tacky as asphalt. You should have heard those poor tires on that vw...I could hear howling like I dont hear unless on track.I dont want to say I was scared at all, but I knew that I was absolutely on the very limit, of that little car the whole way around.Anyone who saw me get completely sideways a few times, at crazy speeds, that was unreal. The rush I got after wards was unreal. The whole of my body was tingling like a good track session. What a freaking blast, Larry says we are welcome back anytime! We called him at dinner at Cracker Barrel,yep...
Good southern food after a long day, nothing better. The alternator died on the ford, coming back from Fayetteville.Leaving me and dad stuck near Apex.
Anyhow, Chris Suich has the bus, adn our trailer with vw in tow. After we fix the ford, which got flatbedded to our house from AAA.We are gonna get the trailer and get the vw ready for Wilson. In a way, I am glad I did not take the wrx, I would have EATEN brakes up in one session.I cna get them hot at wilson easily, the dirt track would have eaten them alive. All in all, never under estimate the power of a maniac in a vw.
