ATTENTION!

As Pete mentioned, Larry (owner of the Fayetteville drag strip and speedway) does not want us to run on the grass lot we have been using. Charlie did an excellent job smoothing/grading everything after the event, but it is still a challenge to mow at the moment.

As a consolation, however, we have taken him up on an offer to make a course on the adjacent oval dirt track! It is fairly wide, so we should have a good amount of room for elements as opposed to straight - WOT powerslide - straight. The one problem we have is that there is a race going on the night before our event. It is good news for the usability of the surface, but we will not be able to set up our course until Sunday morning.

That being said, if anyone has objections/comments/suggestions, please let us know. We don't have much of a choice for this event since it's less than 2 weeks away. If it works out well, it may be a viable option for the rest of the Fayetteville events; if not, we will look elsewhere. It would also be a HUGE help if a few people are willing to head down to Fayetteville extra early on Sunday to help with course setup.

If you are as excited as I am, sign up and tell your friends!

As Drew said while I was composing the following, come on down and have a blast on a totally new rallycross concept.

Hi Rally-X friends and fiends I have some late breaking news about our upcoming Fayetteville rallycross. First the bad news, when we ran in the damp conditions at our first event we tore up the field far more than we had ever done before. Even after 7 hours of hard tractor grading, the field still bore some evidence of our past presence. The landowner and his field hand who has to do the mowing are no longer willing to let us run on that field.

OK, now for the better news: While we are discouraged from running in the field, we are perfectly welcome to use the 5/8 mile banked dirt oval racetrack. As your dutiful rallycross VPs, we are obligated to put enough cones out there to keep speeds to a reasonable level and to design a course that works well and gives everyone a great, safe experience. The primary down side is that the course will be used the night before until around 11PM as a racetrack so the course setup will have to be done the morning of the event. (I’m pretty sure that they would object to our setting up cones and pre-checking our course, as they were rolling-in the track before their race.)

We will endeavor to get the track ready for a 9:45 Drivers Meeting and a 10:00 AM First-Car-Off.
Since this is a totally new experience for your VPs, and we will be doing the full setup that morning, please feel free to help out in any way you can when you arrive and get your car ready.

If you are really feeling in the spirit, feel free to come on down for the racing on Saturday evening, drink lots of beer (pretty cheap as I recall) and sleep in the old rallycross field until daybreak then help setup the course. If you do decide to camp at the track, pitch your tent at the end of the track away from I95 (it’s amazing just how noisy and close to the other end of the field the Interstate really is).

So, once again I’ll encourage you to come on out and enjoy our inaugural dirt track experience. Heck if the autocross group can run on a bonafide racetrack why shouldn’t we rallycrossers do the same?
Charlie G

NCCAR isn't a racetrack (it's an interstate ramp several miles long) And I didn't see Patriot course anywhere on the calendar.

('tho Folger Subaru does run autox's at CMP -- east and west courses)

Hmm.. I'll have to work on convincing the wife... but I really want to come watch racing (did someone say the 'B' word? :toast: ), camp out, and play in the dirt all day on Sunday.

I assume they wet the track down for the races, right? Anyone know what a dirt track looks like the morning after a race? I don't, that's why I'm asking.

Ok, I'm in for spectating(sat), camping and course setup. Will we be able to pitch a tent before nightfall, or is the field used during Saturday night events?

The field should be accessible sometime around 4:00,because they start grooming the track about that time. In the past we were on site around Noon to set up in the field, but we were alone until later in the afternoon.
If anyone questions you about being in the field just remember that Larry Norris, the track manager, said we could camp.
Also, keep well away from the track itself because cars do come over the bank on a regular basis. (Fun racing)
Charlie

I would say so, can store your stuff in her too.If they do, maybe they wanna race with us some too.VEEDUB!there are two sensors in the veedub for temp..and a temp sending unit i think too, that part is malfunctioning ,sending erronious messages to the temp gauge, it reads faulty settings.
so, i think whatever vw uses to tell the fans to come on, is not working.. i think the thermostat is working, but somewhere there is a electrical gremlin
that is...not telling the fans to go right.

If someone wants to offer me a codrive in their rallyx car (so that I don't have to risk my wife's daily driver) I'll gladly drive the bus.

Maybe Micheal Czeiszberger can offer a co drive in the green legacy. It is a interesting car .If we can solve our overheating gremlins, we may offer up the vw.I dont wanna have our motor try to melt again though. We will see.

Do you otherwise have a rally car, and just need a way to get it there?

Nope. Well, not in this part of the state. I have a pile of old Subarus that need to be cluged together into a rallyx car back at my old house in Caldwell Co. That'll probably be a thing next year.

I've got an R56 Mini Cooper with a large FMIC that would be very fragile in the dirt. I've worked Sandblast stages with it and it did fine there, but I wasn't trying to compete, obviously. I can probably borrow my step-father's Crosstrek again for this weekend. 8" of factory ground clearance makes it an easy car to not break.

To be clear, I'm willing to work out compensation (beyond driving the bus) for a codrive. I don't expect any free rides. I don't expect a codrive opportunity to materialize at all, for that matter. I'm a complete stranger to this group. I was mostly afraid my post may have killed the thread.
