You're welcome.

Thanks again to Charlie for all his hard work and for letting me drive his car. Great event!

I was safe behind a telephone pole... scared: not at all, amuzed: highly. Comment: the car does have more than one pedal. (not that I was using the brake much myself.)

That was an absolute BLAST! After 3 years of track driving, it took a while to break away from That Which You Will Not Do On Track(tm) -- turn, lift, counter, gas! ('tho, that is the recommended path for driving in the rain -- be "out of control" on purpose, and predictable instead of "oh-shit" half way around a turn.) It was far more exhausting than I expected -- between setup and event, I bet I've walked 10 miles, but I'll do again with a smile.

I'm glad I finally made it to an event. (damned rain this year, and races, track days, and real life last year.) Thanks to Charlie for letting me beat on his nissan. We have one at the shop for this very sport -- it's an automatic, tho -- but haven't had the time to prep it.

Just as an aside, my company health program has us logging our exercises so I used my smart phone to log my walking at the event. By 8:30AM I had logged 3.49 miles (which more than met my daily allowance so I turned it off). It is entirely reasonable to think that the organizers and good course walkers/workers logged a good 10 mile hike in the course of the day.

We made some video in the Sentra and the Subaru. Pete is dieing to post some to YouTube; all we have to do is edit the continuous running several hours of non-stop recording. We need to rig some switch that automatically engages the camera on and off within a couple of minutes of car motion. (One forgets to turn off the camera in the adrenaline rush that follows a good run.)

Gee, that was fun!

If we can get that kind of group support helping with setup, tear down, and timing and scoring (meaning that I could hang out with the newbies and provide coaching and driving the tractor) I might consider running for office again.

Results are up. Charlie was crushing everyone on raw time, too bad he was crushing so many cones too! 2nd in SU2 and 6th overall... with 12 CONES!

Thanks for the ride, Charlie!

I finished up the tractor duty a couple of minutes before 7:00PM. I had to quit because the tractor doesn't have lights (and I was really tired). Most of the ruts were re-fillable, but that muddy spot at the north corner by the light pole almost got the tractor stuck.
The grading started out as "fun", but as the daylight faded I found myself grading in second gear bouncing along at high speed. I'm really learning more about grading with a box blade than learning how to avoid cones. While driving the tractor at lower speeds I thought that it might make a good "retirement" career in a couple of years (yeah I really am that old, thank you). I did learn not to cross really big ruts at top speed....danged tractors don't have any shock absorbers....Wheeeeeee, I can fly.

Did Mary arrive back on campus with tales to tell of her fast braking adventures? (or was that her non-braking adventures?).

Come back anytime Steve and bring your daughter with you. Sorry you guys had to leave early. "You could have been a contender."
Regards,
Charlie G

Yeah, I could be faster too if the cones weren't in the way. Cones count!

You're right Vincent, If I'd hit two more cones you could have finished ahead of me.
Damn that felt good! I never talk smack to Vincent, but just couldn't let that one go. Heck Vincent I even loaned you the car to beat me in (and in truth you had me by 2 seconds in the afternoon - see I can be fair too). I was just having way too much fun at that faster speed. The cones really seemed come up much faster with just a little more speed.

On a different topic, how did you like the handling with the front bar only loosely connected? I discovered too late that the cup washer on the end links had popped over the link so there was 3/4" of movement before the bar started doing anything. I thought that it was just a bit tail happy, but I do like a loose car.
Regards,
Charlie G

Damn, now I'm even more sorry I had to go to a wedding on Sunday! The rain must have been caused by the magnet-- when I designed it, I had no idea the event would actually be muddy.

I hope we see a good crowd like this again next month at Wilson...

My father, when he is in the sentra is a scary thing. Although, everyone really Carl,Dad, even Ricky eventually... were really laying iit down in the sentra that day. That thing has a faulty front sway, that is why she handles like a sprint car. because it effectively has no front sway. we are working on that, I wanna see more 2wd cars, that way we have more to run with. I am coming in the ser next, maybe I will beat dad.

I think we are going to have to drive the same car for the entire event for either of us to able to fairly say we beat the other. Like I said, your SE-R has way more HP, better tires, and 2WD.

As far as the SE-R's handling, I was used to how the General handles so it was quite a bit different. The General is also very tail happy, but it's much easier to recover than the SE-R. Also the brakes seem to work better (less pedal travel) in the General vs. your SE-R. It was fun to drive though!

Update on the General's health.

This past Sunday Mitch and I got him up on the lift to install the new axle when we saw the reason the axle failed. That crack just above the right side tab where the lower control arm mounts shouldn't be there!

A little further back on the front subframe we found this:

No problem, we removed the lower control arm and I welded in a plate to fuse it back together:

We popped in the new axle, added new fluid, put it all back together, and the old General is ready to go again!

So,dad drives the general and I kick his butt in what essentially is a copy of my old car. The wrx was more fun than a barrel of monkeys in the mud, the gopro dont lie though. It did not look like i did all my runs. :? better luck next time. The mud is sooooo much fun in awd.
