Should we change the fun run rule?

The fun run is too important. Let's keep it no matter the cost 14%  14%  [ 1 ]

Now that we've switched to AXWare I'm loving the new timing board but there's one major problem: AXware can't handle a "fun run". I've been going through and fixing things by hand, but it takes time, but more importantly, is error prone. With everything else to do at a race, trying to make software do what it wasn't intended is just bound to cause a screwup.

My suggestion is to switch to something the software can handle, either dropping the slowest run per heat, or no drops at all. If drivers want to make their first run slowly to get used to the course, that would be dropped, the same as today. But if they happened to have a good run then it would count, so I really don't see a downside.

Sure, it would be nice to keep fun runs, but its more important to remove the chances for a scoring screwup and make things run smoother in the bus.

You could just change the fun run to be a rerun.

Dropping the slowest run seems flawed!!!! What about when I hit three cones, woo hoo that is two trophy spots.

I personally think the fun run is a good idea, but it def needs some adjusting when it comes to the guys in the bus. I think that all the fun runs need to be done first before a timed run goes, that includes the two driver cars!! Get it done and over with so that it is not an interruption in the middle of the runs.

I could if AXWare made it easy to do re-runs. What I've found is any interaction with the runs while timing is active results in the timing values not being recorded from then on, so I been interacting with the program as little as possible during a race. I was able to duplicate this behavior several times, so its not a fluke, and had to manually enter missing scores after the heat.

Um, I think you're doing something wrong there. We do reruns all the time for autocross without issues. There is a little pull down menu to mark it as a rerun.

This. Mike you should get someone from the AX timing and scoring team to sit down with you and give you a crash course on AXWare, and if you've already done that shame on whom ever that was for not showing you how to do this. Its easy peasy.

I say if you don't figure out how to make it work, just make everybody do their fun before anybody does a competition run. That will help keep things clear without the starter constantly calling which kind it is, too. I like things simple. And more runs is good. So this is my vote.

+1

Set a time limit, so no lollygagging. If people don't get their runs in within the "fun run" period, they forfeit the fun.

so if your back inthe back staging, do you forfeit becasue the line is too long. that does not sound fair

Thanks for all of the feedback guys. I think it was just pilot error with the new software, so pending talking with Charlie I think we'll just leave well enough alone. It shouldn't take too long to go through and accurately mark the first run as a fun run now. (Thanks for the software tip.)
