It does look like rain this weekend, but the site is mostly sand, and should have good drainage. I'll be calling the site owner tomorrow morning for a go/no-go decision.

Latest update: The owner/manager of the site is going out this afternoon to assess the field's conditions for a Sunday race. I'll let everyone know ASAP.

Despite our best efforts, the site owner of the Fayetteville Motor Speedway made the decision to cancel the race. There was standing water on more than half of the course, and even if we got more no rain until the race, the field would still be too soft.

This is the 3rd weather cancelation this year, but that's to be expected when the rainfall is twice normal:

The next race is Sep. 15th...

So those of you who want to play on some awesome gravel roads, watch the rally from places the spectators don't get to see and then hang out with the drivers, co-drivers and crews at the after party should go to Rally WV and help the organizers run the event. Volunteers are needed, and you'll have a great time. Details here:

http://www.rallywv.com/staff.html

I had expected the rallyx to be cancelled, so we've already made plans to go the the NC mtns this weekend and do some recce practice and other fun things that you do on gravel roads.

I'm irritated that the race was cancelled, but *more* irritated it was cancelled this late. I'd rather have the owners err on the side of caution and have a race get called off on Tuesday or Wednesday vs. right before the weekend. It is what is is, though, and I understand we don't want to lose these facilities.

Also, will there be a credit for pre-paid folks, or will a future rallycross be assumed paid?

Sorry Brett! Its pretty much up to the site owners as far as making the call about how wet is too wet. In this particular case it was called on Friday because Fayettville got a lot of rain on Thursday night and Friday, creating standing water on the course as of Friday night. Yes, Sunday was sunny, but its unlikely the course would have dried up sufficiently by then. With a season with double the normal rainfall, its not surprising we've had trouble putting together a dry week before a race.

As you know, rallyx could take a wet field and tear the living crap out of it, so its up to the site owners to make the call. Even the previous sites like the BMW Farm, which is just a big cow pasture, was starting to complain about us running when it was wet and contributing to soil erosion.

As with the previous races, anyone who's prepaid for any of the three previous canceled races will have their entry fee rolled over to the next race. I actually have an official list and everything (Thanks Mary!).
