Just wanted to let everybody know that Kooter and I went to NCCAR to check out their rallyx area today. Drove my rallyx car, used their fancy Hunter alignment lift to change to rally tires, drove around a little bit. Used my floor jack to change tires afterward.
Simon and Sam are pretty excited about getting some use out of the land before it's paved, which they're hoping will be sometime this year. But it will basically be whenever they get funding for it.
So our thoughts are that it's plenty big, is a little rough at the moment but it should be easy to make it smooth enough, has nice drainage, some good variety of slope angle for making on-camber and off camber turns, and looks like it will be in good shape after an event. I drove around in a basic top of 1st/bottom of 2nd pattern and Sam followed my tire tracks with the "small" tractor and blade. He did a few laps around, and then I did a few laps with the car at competition speed. The dirt was still a little deep and loose in most places, but they said it won't take much to get to the underlying clay, if that's what we want. It was already exposed in a few spots, and I can tell you, that's what we want. And if we want, they can make it a "permanent" course, like I have at my house. We'd just need to figure out the best layout and then let them prep it. Sounded like this would be the easiest/ cheapest thing for them, so I'm ok with that. And Sam asked about whether we like to include elements like jumps in our courses.

They seemed really flexible and willing to work with us to make sure we're happy.
Still working on schedule, but we should be able to get a few events there this year if we want, depending on their funding. Preferably early in the year, of course.
So any comments or questions?
