hey all,

well. it looks like the people at OCS arent very happy with us.
it has to do with a combination of:
us not being happy about them NOT mowing the course during our last race
us tearing up the field
and the lack of money they are making by us running there.

so i dont know. maybe we can work something out with them. either we'll have to pay more to rent the place, or maybe run there with longer span between races.

There may not even be a solution for this and we'll be completely shut-out from there. but here's to hoping we can keep racing there.

We cant afford to lose OCS (unless they want too much $$).
If OCS drops out then we have 2 courses, we probably will not have the ability to run 9 events a year. So please help come up with some ideas.

I want to know how much you guys are comfortable paying for an entry fee.

We may have to move our september race to BMW Farm

Any feedback from Wilson on the damage from the last race?

I'm not particularly price sensitive on the entry fees to keep OCS.

I don't mind paying a bit more for OCS, but I'm sure not everyone feels that way, and as entries fall off you can't keep jacking up prices trying to chase the lost revenue.

Are you still dealing with Kim(?) Foushee at OCS? She always seemed real reasonable to me- have you tried asking if there's anything we can do to make her feel better about having us there? Sometimes just making sure someone feels respected goes a long way. I don't know if that has anything at all to do with it, just a thought.

carl i agree on he price hike.

Kim isnt in the office much anymore. at the beginning of the year they had a major change in operations. Kim herself was not very happy with the change either. I emailed/called her so many times that I finally talked to Terry. And he broke it down for me about what their going through. So i dont know. I really enjoy OCS, but where do we draw the line with price? we've already cut down on trophies and have increased the price.

I am still waiting on a call back from him to see what him and the owner have said.

You can't even tell we were there. I spoke with Bowie and after he talked with the site manager and he said we are welcome back.

FYI, I've got a line on another 30 acre tract in Wilson right now. I'm going to look at it this week. I'll send the VP's a Google earth link to it sometime today. The owner is one our clients here at my work.

yeah, Dave at the fairgrounds said the course is good to go. We just want to make sure we dont run on the same spots as we did last race so they dont end up like BMW farm/OCS.

he said the fairgrounds committee even looked at it and said it was OK.

so we're good to go. And the fact that the gravel part doesnt get damaged is even better.

So how does the club go about finding new locations to race? Like, how did BMW Farm come to be, or how did Rodney or whoever find out about the new site in Burlington?

I'm dying to rally or rallyX. I'm broke as hell, so it'll be a while before I have a car to race, but I'd love for there to be more nearby places to run on, even if all I do is volunteer for a long while first.

I drive for work, so I make mental notes of any gravel roads or large patches of woods I see. Then I go home and scour Google Maps to see what's there. I don't know how practical this is. I don't know if it makes sense to just randomly approach land owners in the area to ask about using their farm or whatever to race on a couple of times a year. The one really good site I've found so far turns out to be a Bald Eagle sanctuary, so there's no way in hell anyone is going to be racing there (but, Man! I wish there was a way; the site has at least 3 miles of gravel and dirt).

Anyway, just curious. I mean, Sandblast runs in a state park, doesn't it? How did they get that arrangement?

peace,
Alan

Just get a co-drive... you're welcome to drive my car at the next race.
