I for one think it looks great! The price is a little steep though, and the only thing it will have in common with the production model is the engine, and I'm sure even that is highly modified.

You never know, though, I'm guessing they'll be a cheaper John Cooper Works version of the Countryman in a year or two that may inherit some upgraded suspension parts.

This month's MC2 magazine has a detailed article on the new Prodrive MINI rally car, but its not online. It doesn't say what the instruction is, only that its got something to do with rally'ing.

The details are interesting in that after Subaru pulled out of the WRC, Prodrive was left in the lurch, and instead of just sitting around they developed a generic rallying platform they could shop around. Once they have a customer, Prodrive puts in the same engine, and fits a shell around it to resemble the production model. So, the only thing this has in common with a production MINI Countryman is they both start with the same engine block; everything else is from Prodrive.

Their goal is to sell 100 of the MINI WRC cars at $540K each! They claim the project will break even after only 25 cars :-)

The red car you see in the pictures is actually a "show car" which is for publicity only and isn't actually one of the cars that will be raced, as that is still being designed and tested.

A Mini for $540k? Seriously? This must have been the sales and marketing team that came up with that.....

I don't know who's buying these cars, but Prodrive is selling their used Subaru rally cars for up to $420K US.

No idea what the actual selling price is on these, but the asking prices are online.
