I know someone mentioned these tires a while ago in another thread- but they are now cheap enough that even I was interested... 8)

NC State Surplus Property office on Hwy 54 (Chapel Hill Rd) just off I-40 in Raleigh has a bunch of new and (barely) used 225/60R16 snow tires for sale.

IIRC, they were Goodyear Winterforce tires. The used ones I saw looked to be barely used, and they were mounted on black steel wheels- I don't know what bolt pattern, but I think it's safe to assume they were either Crown Vics, Impalas or Chargers. The used ones were studded- they have small steel studs imbedded in the tread, but I *think* the new ones were studless.

Price was $50 for 4 of the used ones (tires/wheels) or $200 for 4 of the new ones (bare tires only).

They had a bunch of them, probably 8-10 sets of each, when I was there this afternoon.

Seriously thinking of buying a set of these for my BMW 528iT in case we see some snow next winter.........

just went up there and got a set for my brother for the winter time.
they are older winterforce tires, not the newer patter that we've seen in the rallyX races.

but i got them for $10 a tire, no rim (almost got them for $10 a pair, until the lady asked a co worker, but oh well..)

there are maybe 10 or so left. i tried to pick out the best ones. some may seen dry a bit and the side walls look scuffed up, not from the road, but like they were sitting around for a while and the weather got to them.

they do have studs, which im sure are fairly easy to remove, but i have yet to try, or ill just let them fall out as my brother drives, i guess it depends on how easy they are to remove.

but for $10 each, i cant complain.

they sold out of the newer model winter force tires that were $200 for a set.

these tires are interesting to me. but no wheels to put them on . the tires on the car now (wrx) are mud and snow.. so no real change there. good luck though finding a home yes.
