Don't get me started on the Johnston county zoning dept and how they operate. As some of you know, I had it out with them when I first built my shop out behind the house. They said I was running an illegal auto repair shop (not true, I don't work on any cars besides my own) and then they said that county zoning rules said that I was only allowed to have 1 vehicle on my property. I asked them if they had ever looked around Johnston County to see that most people have at least 2 cars, and plenty of folks have all sorts of cars all over their property. The reply I got was "we're not talking about other folks". They beat me down for a while, but I just laid low and let it sort of blow over and then they haven't said anything about it in a couple of years now. (fingers crossed)
This does suck, and YES it *could* happen at the BMW farm. I guess the big difference is that we don't have neighbors that are very close to the RallyX fields, and the driveway is 100% ours. The neighbors that live out at the back of the farm mentioned that they saw the dust clouds during the last RallyX, but I think they were more curious/interested in what was going on, rather than being annoyed. I invited them to come out next time to see what it was all about, and told them that maybe we could arrange for a ride-along if they were so interested.
I'm sure some of you guys know that I've always asked that the "THSCC AutoCross" sign that is put up at the end of the driveway be taken down as soon as possible after the event gets going, I just don't want any more attention drawn to the event than necessary.
Mike may have a valid point about paying the neighbors an inconvenience fee- it couldn't hurt to ask IF Kevin feels like he wants to do so and IF he has a decent relationship with them.
This is something that we need to be VERY aware of, I don't think we can afford to lose any more sites.
