And WTF was it doing in the fan? :?:

Well, take a look a the fans next time your in the bus. The protective metal grill only covers the front, the back is wide open. I was trying to adjust them to blow on me as I was driving and didn't even think that the back may be open when I grabbed the fan to adjust it.

I voice another thanks to Bernie for bringing out his tractor on Saturday. We took turns riding the mower around so we wouldn't get heat stroke. Bernie mowed more than I; he seems to really like riding in the field. We arrived before 10:00 AM and put the tractor on the trailer around 2:30-3:00 PM. I thank God that I am not a farmer.

Sorry that the results aren't up yet; I left the laptop in the bus Sunday and won't get it until Wed. If you don't already know that you won then you probably didn't. (Welcome to my world.)

I certainly want to throw out big thanks to Bernie for coming over Saturday to mow. :toast:

Big thanks to Walter, Vincent and Les for course setup and bus transport. It's never a fun job, but it does have to happen for an event. So thanks again for making it happen.

Let's not forget the Veeps! Thank you 2 as well.

I'm not sure what all the panic was about mud. There was so much dust from the first car running, I think this was one of the dustiest days in a long time.

Well, I'm going to be the nay sayer and express that this was not my favorite course. Racing down and turning around and racing back is not my thing. Of course car troubles puts a downer on my day, but even if the car had performed well, I think I would still feel this way.

With that said, if was still a fun day, and it is always good to experience a variety to learn likes and dislikes.

Being a former VP, I very much appreciate all the work that goes into making an event happen, so I'll run and whatever course is served and make the best of it.

Thanks to everyone for making it a successful event.

I agree. Did the guys mowing on Saturday find any evidence where the previous mower had supposedly been getting stuck? Having seen this track VERY muddy (raining during the event), I can't figure out what the problem would have been, unless the guy didn't know how to drive and was on turf tires, or unless he was towing a mower rather than a 3-pt mount. Or unless he just didn't feel like getting out there to mow. :)

I can definitely see how this would be the case, although I *always* like OCS the best because it's such a smooth course (easier on the car) compared to the other places we run. (I don't mean that in a mean-spirited way - just discussing) I like OCS when it's muddy or a little wet, so it starts out slick and you have to figure that out, and then gets grippier as the day goes along, to where it just starts to get dusty at the end. Is that too specific? :)

The 06-June course definitely favored the cars with more power or "all-out" drivers, and I think you'll see that in the results when they are posted. But we have other events where you can't use all the power you have, so it balances out.

It was really fun on the afternoon course hitting that first right-hand corner and then flying down the back "straight" (slight slalom?). The same part of the track was my favorite in the morning course, but in reverse. I wanted a few more runs in the morning to build up my confidence enough not to back out of the gas coming down the "hill" toward the last turn. :sing:

Bernie's up @ VIR today, so I'll answer on his behalf. NO. He pretty much covered the area and was laughing that there was no evidence of equipment getting stuck, or no place that they would have gotten stuck. There was an event at the track and all associated areas were well mowed. My guess, (not speaking for Bernie) is that they pay someone to mow, their stuff got mowed first, and that was that.

Bernie was happy to do it, by the way, and REALLY appreciates being named HOTM.

My take on the course is that it was the first time I got multiple tries at the long over-steer sweepers, and for the first time got the hang of rotating the car before the turn and then accelerating through the apex. Most of our courses are really tight, and the turns come too fast for a beginner like me to rotate the car fast enough. This course was long enough I could take the time to set up the car and figure some things out.

One of the things I figured out was the higher the acceleration the less my car oversteers in a fast slalom. That was always true theoretically, but this was the first time there was a fast and long enough slalom to demonstrate this definitively.

So, two big thumbs up from me. On the downside, my car isn't particularly competitive on a drag start, especially with a blown clutch, but

Why didn't OCS just say "You can use the field, but you have to mow it" instead of saying their tractor got stuck? Anyone who was there Saturday or Sunday knows the entire site was as dry as a bone as saw the dust clouds to prove it.

Tell Bernie thanks again and he is welcome to come out and join us anytime.
