Hey guys and gals,

We're holding our next event on the 17-18th weekend. We have on the schedule that a school is in session, and that will depend on number of attendees.

but one thing is for sure, that Sunday is a race. so get your cars ready, tell your friends, wife, friends' wife, girlfriend, cousin, mom, dad and come on out.

We still need a co-chair. Brian Herring has offered to help co-chair. Chairing is a great way to learn more about the dynamics of the course. All that is involved is trying to coordinate the bus, graphics, and of course setting the course up with the help of the VP's and other members who usually come out. No experience is needed. So please post up or PM if you would like to volunteer as a chair, and remember, event chairs get free admission to the event.

If we dont have enough participants within a couple days of the school, we will need to cancel it.

we've only got 3 weeks.
thanks,
'10 VP

Could you give a description of the "school"? I'd be happy just getting more than six runs at a course for practice.

Generally, in the past (2006/07) the school consisted of a morning and afternoon sessions.

Morning:

Two to three stations that worked on a specific part of rallyX. Generally, there was a long sweeper, a slalom, and a mini course. Two ofthe three sections were timed so, so you would be working on "a part" of the course at a time. You would be accompanied by instructors on your runs, and talk about what you can do to improve.

Afternoon:

After running the course sections and improving specific technical skills, you would put this together in the afternoon with a complete run through all the sections. This would be with or without an instructor, depending on if they signed you off or not.

Generally, our rallyX schools in the past have been geared for beginners to discuss specific skills that are important in any type of driving, and those unique to rallyX.

If you have more specific questions, or the RallyX VP would like to add content on something he had in mind, please post away.

You should get enough runs to make it well worth your time, regardless.

That sounds great to me. The BWM Farm isn't that expensive, and I'd be happy to just pay my share of the cost for the extra day plus some. For example, could we run the school of only 10 people agreed to pay $45? Or $65? I'm not that price sensitive since rallycross overall is a cheap hobby compared to my horse :-)

The reason this is important to me is I don't know the fastest way to take even the simplest turn in my car. The only way for me to earn is to try a few things and time them, and if there's someone standing around to give pointers, even better! If I just wait for an actual rallycross figuring this it would be time consuming and error prone.

The correct answer to that is that we have to have an event that would be a fair price to everyone, and has to follow guidelines the VPs have set well in advance.

The realistic answer to that is if you really need some one-on-one time, I am sure that I, Kevin, or even Keith could get you some time out at Kevin's (if he would be gracious enough) to help you out on specifics (but without timing equipment, which is the real value add, in my opinion).

If you ever wanted to start doing more events, such as those at Summit Point just to get more seat time, let me know, and I am more than willing to make the hike with you, when I have some free "daddy" time.

thanks for the input brian.

Charlie and I spoke. We're going to hold the school on saturday for anyone interested in coming out and getting more seat time and/or learning a few things.

You dont have to come just because its a school. we're setting it up so its also a T&T day for some folks who want to find tune a few things.

we have some setups in mind depending on how many people we have.

the price is still the same. 30 if you pre-pay/prereg or 35 if you pay at the event.

we plan on running all day with a lunch in the middle.

I assume by "lunch in the middle" means "we are breaking for lunch".

Also, are we going to have the timers up on the T&T/school? Are there going to be instructors?

yup, a lunch break so we can setup the afternoon school like you mentioned..

the idea of having the morning session where folks can work on specific parts and then combining them for the afternoon session is what we were thinking.

we only have one set of timers as far as i know. so it will def. be used in the afternoon course to see the time for the combined parts. we can use it in the AM as well, but in only one part of the course. unless whoever is riding with you can use a stop watch or we have a spotter with a stop watch.

as far as instructors go. if we have enough of both show up, then we can. but if we have more students show up then instructors, then we were thinking of a group school type of setting. 2wds will be in one group. 4wds in another. and from there it will be similar to a HPDE classroom setting where vehicle/course dynamics will be discusses, course walks will be made with Q/A from instructors and also others who would like to chime in.

to make things even for the instructors, we figured if you need someone (doesnt even have to be an instructor) to ride with you during a session, then they can to give you some help and pointers. one thing that was brought up was the fact that we would like to give the instructors a good amount of seat time as well for coming out. this way, everyone can have some seat time and get what they paid for. (yes, i think we're looking into everyone paying, even the instructors, or at least a reduced amount)

as of now, its only 7-10 people signed up for the school. and if that is the case, then everyone would need to pay so we can break even.

BTW i just wanted to make it clear that the reason behind the combination is because we want to cater to everyone, and not just the Novice rallyers. ive had mixed reaction about a school and a test and tune. So please come out.

BUT we're gonna have to play by the rules of the school. its not going to be a Free-for-all where you can do whatever.

I'll definitely be there for both days and think my brother in law will too.

Thanks for setting this up. I really need the practice.

Charlie:

Sorry to reply so late, but I am at work until 10pm on Mondays.

For the two day, it appears there are already some really good thoughts on how to conduct the school. I really like the idea of having a mixed class, that way people who see others doing things, or going fast can ask real time questions and get rides right then and there. Very much like an "Open Source" learning environment. I am tempted to post all of this information in the thread instead of in eMail so there is a greater audience getting pumped up, and adding input!

As far as setting up a full course, I would like to know what lot we will be on there. There is the upper field and lower field. Have the Luters given any feedback on that?

I will just start with that, and we can go from there.... I think I will post this in the thread :)

Welcome to THSCC's third event of the year, and our second time back to the BMW Farm for 2010! For anyone who has not been here before, this is a converted cow field that has elevation changes and soil that consists mostly of sandy dirt. At the BMW farms, the land owners have a tire mounting machine (which they are very gracious to let us use), so be sure to bring the rental car out and hack it up until you de-bead all the tires as it can be fixed ON SITE! Feel free to sign up at our pre-registration page.

This is a weekend of a rallyX school on Saturday, and event on Sunday. Saturday will consist of multiple courses with run groups split into even numbers. Teaching will be done in a "group" style. This means there will be no assigned instructors, and you need to talk to people to get instruction. Don't worry! There are some great drivers and great people, so get to know the people in your group, and ask for help if you need it! It is self-paced, so work at your own pace, and get some ride-alongs with other drivers so you can see what they are doing. Come out, have fun playing in the dirt and fine tune your 'hack'! Sunday will be the competition day to take all your tuning and skills you have learned on Saturday to a 6 run format where all times (and cones) count! See how much you have learned, and apply it to the real thing! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask our event chair, Brian Herring (2006 Subaru Impreza WRX [Red]) any and all questions that you may have.

Finally, and as always, please remember that we will be guests on private property, and our good behavior everywhere on the property is critical to our continued use of this great site. Please help us make this event a success!

Want to sign up and see if you can 'hack it'? Do that here.

Get directions here.
