Thanks to Michael Czeiszperger (think Cheezburger) and Kevin Allen for a day well spent among friends and competitors. It would not be possible to hold these events without the efforts of our event chairs. The task is not overwhelming nor difficult if a few folks share the work, but the VPs could not pull this off alone.

I would also like to thank Ray Metts and Peter Guthrie for their assistance with the set-up on Saturday.

Your fledgling VPs got off to a slow start this morning, but we all had our turn to go really, really fast 6 times. (OK, some of us were only really, really fast in our minds)

We'll give the Team Spirit Award to Jan Kokoszka for dragging in 4 competitors, including one novice. We really appreciate everyone who invites folks to our events to help grow and maintain the program.
Still glad to be a part of this great group,
Charlie Guthrie

So tell us all what you are using as the helmet cam. I have been seeing "spy camera" digital DVRs on ebay and thinking about adding one to the collection of silly technology. I must say that the video I just watched looked pretty good. Great job of keeping your head from vibrating and spoiling the movie. You could get a movie job as a "steady cam" operator.

Thanks to Kevin and all that made this a great rallycross. The weather was perfect too. If you didn't have fun yesterday, you don't know how to have fun at a rallycross!

It's the contourhd. http://vholdr.com/ It works pretty well. That vid is standard defininition. It takes vids in 720p hd also. The only down side is that it does not have a view finder. You have to plug it into a computer or portable video player to view the vids. You can find them one sale for around $150. They just came out with a version that can record 1080p hd. Or you could try one of these http://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/cat-indust ... MC1%2FACC/.

I most certainly had fun, hopefully I can figure out how to drive that car to its potential.

Sorry about all the bumps. I spent a lot of time grading, but you just can't keep it from rutting once we get started. :(

Made it entertaining, though! :D

Just wondering?

Would it be possible to find someone with a bulldozer to flatten, fill the holes and pack the worse parts?

I like the idea of a semi permanent course, but it seems the holes get deeper and deeper even when Kevin fills them up. No matter how hard he tries, a tractor and box blade isn't going to be enough.

I'd be willing to contribute $100.00 to the project. I know we are just breaking even, so the club might not be able to give us anything.

Who knows someone with a bulldozer and who might contribute?

All this is certainly contingent on it being OK with Kevin.

With the type of soil at Kevin's it requires constant maintenance to keep the ruts from becoming permenant fixtures. I don't think Kevin has the time or motivation to put that much work into it. Renting a bulldozer will be cost prohibitive and you will have to move a lot of dirt to get everything square.

The much cheaper solution (if you don't count lost participation) is to ban beaters. Seriously. I could do laps for hours out there without making those ridges, because my car doesn't bounce around that bad, and I don't go full throttle through those spots. It's all the bouncing from cars being underdamped, completely undamped, whatever, that causes it. They're all bouncing in exactly the same spots, so part of the ground doesn't get touched, then the full 2000-3000 lbs gets shoved into the dirt on the landings. And usually the gas pedal is floored, so you have tires spinning in the air, then digging in on the landings. As long as we have beaters showing up at my house, we'll have moguls. I've actually seen cars bounce off the ground where there are barely perceptible bumps, too, so I've just accepted this as something that's going to happen each rallyx.

If I win the lottery, I'll of course buy the equipment to grade, pack and gravel the entire course, so that it's similar to driving on the STPR roads. :D

Kinda funny/ ironic, that the guys with beaters that usually do the most complaining about ruts and ridges are the ones who are causing the problem.

Not pointing fingers at anyone here, just enjoying some irony. I've spent enough time playing around out there that I understand how it all works. If more people would come out for play days, maybe there'd be less of a problem. :whoknows:

I literally spent hours fixing ruts before and during this event. And I'll be spending hours fixing them now that the event is over. It's worth it to see people having that much fun, though.

what you want is a sheeps foot packer and better soil.the sandy soil, just ruts up alot.. all there is too it. man.. i got up on the ridge in the back part.. in the afternoon see, and i was worried about high centering.. so i turned off the ridge, only to fall in to the mud hole to the right of it, and the car felt like i was going to go on two wheels. Not a good feeling at 60 mph! haahahha. We were laughing like kids, when we realized we were worrying needlessly..
I am still getting mud out of my subie.. it has become the course tester.
I think a skid plate is next for our car, as for the subie maybe a subie outback sport skid plate yes? awd cars to me, tear it up more.. they throw her into the turn and get on it, ripping it.. though with that much sand there is not much you can really do.

The scary part is how long it took to figure out something was wrong under the car before removing it. Now you know why the course was so rutted :-)

If you ban beaters, what am I going to do with all this leftover duct tape?
