This was my first time at a Rallycross at Four Oaks, and having been a co-chair for both Four Oaks and the BMW Farm I can say they're both about the same, rut-wise. Both have bumpy sections and smooth sections, and the outer sections of turns turn into sand pits. In fact, it takes hours at the BMW farm to figure out a course that doesn't beat your car all to heck. A large percentage of that land isn't available because of the ditches and dips and humps you can't go over at speed.

The bottom line is we're using all three of our sites to their best advantage, but if anyone thinks they've got an idea chair an event and show us what you got.

Or even better, find a flat, hard dirt/gravel parking lot somewhere we can use :-)

The real question is, where are the results?

Charlie has the laptop and hopefully will be emailing soon, so the results will be up shortly.

as far as the field goes..

a few options for you folks and others (on other forums who also talk):

A. if its too bumpy, stay home

B. become a co-chair so you can avoid the bumps as much as possible and set the course up the way YOU want it

C. come to kevins bbq days where he literally walks you through the course and points at the spots you need to slow down, turn, jam on brakes, and other little tid bits of info..... apparently its a very informative session.

 @ Kourosh

Walter, you didn't piss me off. I know you're not one to complain, and I'm glad you're having fun. And I enjoy watching you guys having fun. I just get grumpy when discussing this subject, because it seems like most people have no idea what they're talking about & just assume that I throw cones out there and then say, "okay, good enough."

And I know it's not my fault that the course ruts, although I HATE when it does that. I feel responsible for it and feel obligated to do what I can to minimize how bad it gets. Can't do much more than I'm already doing about it, though. I'm sure some people ignorantly blame me for the ruts, but they probably also know what they can do with themselves in my opinion. :D

If the rallyx field was 100% my property and I made all the decisions about its future, I'd probably be looking at doing some things to make it a lot less bumpy and much more interesting. But as long as my mom owns the other half, I'm not going to invest that much time and $ into it.

Sorry for the lack of results, I emailed them in on Sunday evening, and felt quite proud of myself for getting them in so promptly. Sadly there was an email malfunction (pilot error) when sending the email from the laptop through my local network. don't ask me to explain it, I'm only the network administrator...hmmm, perhaps that is the problem.

By the way, I'm the culprit who "edited" the afternoon course to avoid the little bush (which was, by the way, 1-1/2" diameter) so that no shiny new Subarus would go home with a scratch. The rule book specifies a minimum of 15' from the driving line to any obstacles and there was only 9' between the cone and the "tree".

What we do need to do at future events is have the chairpersons and the VPs all carrying radios so that any changes can be discussed. I did feel a little guilty modifying the course so late in the game, and did kick the larger sticks out of the new course, but it would have been better if we had all been in agreement. But that's management decision making for you. We ain't always right, but we is the VPs.
Charlie Guthrie

Thanks Charlie and Carl!

Btw, Les should take credit for ftc1. It's showed up on my name after the first session and we weren't sure why.

but it sure does look good next to my name

Yeah, there's a bug in the automatic FT* calculation. I always go through the results before posting but missed Les's time. Fixed now.

my 2005 wrx. now i was backing off at times, but i could tell between it and the toyota corolla on Sunday.Major difference in suspension travel between the two. The toyota was really bucking alot on sunday, race day.. where the subaru was floating over the bumps near the finish. I know sunday was chewed up though in the morning i could tell the ride was rougher..
The wrx has lotsa suspension and its heavier too.The weight helps over bumps. Why the newer subarus were having problems is odd to me,
I will need to research why, perhaps email subaru or road and track, what the ground clearence numbers are for different car years.yes the jump was worth it. I was not sure whether I would be DNF'ED for it or not.. so i did it anyway, on setup day, I took the jump but backed off right before it all day.
That clouded my judgement on raceday.OH WELL!!! next time i will learn.
