Just to keep everyone apprised of what is going on, we are still planning to hold the event on Sunday.
For those who have volunteered to set up on Saturday morning, we may have to delay if there is snow on the path to the field. The bus driver is reluctant to put the rig into the ditch. We want to get a new bus eventually, but we need to keep the one we have going for a while. The bus driver will call Kourosh on Saturday before leaving for BMW Ranch. If in doubt check with the rally-x VPs before leaving home. Contact numbers are on the THSCC.com contacts page. The bus should be on the road by 9:00 AM if the roads are clear.
We are determined to host the first THSCC event of the 2010 calendar year. Now that the VIR event was snowed out last weekend we have our chance.

Come on out and have some fun. Dress warmly and bring spares.

One of you rallycrossers should buy Dustin's snow tires for the event. :D

Oh, there's "snow on the path to the field" right now for sure, and it's still coming down.

I think it'd be really fun to run in the snow, if we can get enough people brave or stupid enough to get out here and actually run.

I'm ASSuming that the snow will still be here on Sunday, since it's only supposed to get mid-30's on Saturday.

So the question is -- snow tires or rally tires? :) How do medium compound rally tires do in snow anyways? I assume they don't have a lot of silica in them like snow tires do for snow grip. Also I bet the snow will *rapidly* disappear once a few runs are on it anyways, with temps above freezing.

If it's wet, snow tires will RULE. I drove Sebastian's OBS on snow tires at the last event, and it was like driving on dry dirt, compared to driving on snow/ice with my RS on all-seasons. The time difference was about 5 seconds on a 90-sec course. Rally tires won't be any better than all-seasons in the mud, either.

Very slippery out here. Had to ditch the trailer on brets path so the bus could make it. We are going to need a 4x4 help tomorrow am to get the trailer up to the course. Bit we're manually moving supplies to the bus.

Did you meant to say "I drove Sebastian's OBS on snow tires"? Are you saying the competitive rallyx'er should have two sets of competition tires, one snow tire for mud and a rally or all-season for dry?

That's interesting since I had read that snow tires were good for rallyx, but no one in the club seemed to be using them favoring all-seasons or rally tires instead. Are snow tires in the SO or NO classes?

snow tires are good in the summer time when they are really cheap.

lots of times you can pick up a set of used rally tires for a fraction of the cost of a set of snow tires.

Ray has snow tires on his car that he daily drives, and rallyXs as well. best of both worlds. no need to swap tires at the event, but as far as wear and tear, they're still fresh, so we can find out how long theyll last after a few months.

Thanks to the VPs and event chairs who went the extra mile in the snow to make sure this event happened despite the bad weather; I really appreciate it!
