We've probably got 3-4 inches on the ground, but it's pretty soft snow, and it's already melted off of part of the "driveway".

I have not ventured out much yet to see what the path + fields are like, but I'll try to do so soon.

I think the biggest problem would be, as Charlie mentioned, getting tow vehicles and the Bus back to the RallyX site. We just recently got 4 huge loads of gravel for the main part of the driveway, so that should be OK, but getting through the field to the site might be a bit tricky.

It's up to you all if you want to give it a go, I've got the tractor and the backhoe to use if we need to unstick anyone.

Looking for an opinion on one thing for those in the know on rally tires -- how stupid would it be to drive 30 miles to the event on old R700 rally tires? Think I would do much damage to the tires?

I'm considering ditching towing and just arrive and drive. But I don't want to take a lot of life off of the tires.

I drove to BMW Farm on my rally tires every time when I had them, and drove to Cary and back once for a Subaru get-together. Also drove to work on them in Zebulon once so I could go straight to setup at BMW Farm. Didn't noticeably wear the tires. And I drifted it juuuust a few times. :D

It's not that bad Mike. I have a 30 minutes drive to the BMW farm and did it once on my old rally tires. The noise isn't as bad as you would think.

Yeah, the noise isn't any louder than worn/loud street tires. And with a loud exhaust you won't notice it.

Folks there is no longer any snow on the field . The road/path from Brett's house out to the track area is passable, and a lot like a rally-x. I would not, however, recommend towing all the way back into the track. I suggest that trailers be parked just after entering the field across from Brett's house. Please park trailers along the left (uphill) side across from the THSCC trailer that was parked there on the downhill side of the road. The bus could make it up the hill, but not with the trailer. Of course that was in 2-3" of snow +mud, but the mud is still there on that hill and there are a few places that require slowing down to cross big dips so it is tough to keep up momentum.

Now for the track report. It's a shame that Vincent is not planning to attend, he really likes courses with few cones. This course is not particularly technical. We tried to keep it really open and flowing to avoid rutting and slip-n-slide. Come on out and have some fun.

Oh I have driven on them, a few times back and forth to the spray wash in Apex. Maybe there is a difference in the amount of noise generated by different tires, because the R700's sound like a police siren at 55 MPH. People were looking out their side windows at me wondering WTF was going on... :)

I can't believe that I'm the first to do a post-race note.

A big thank-you to Ray Metts and Pete Guthrie for a great course ideally suited to the conditions. I want to especially thank them for their perseverance on Saturday. The set up started before 10:00 AM in 3 inches of snow. The course was set up for the conditions and the only 2-wheel car there took 30+ seconds to go up the first hill. The course was redesigned. After running a couple of passes, the snow turned to slush, and the course was reset. After resetting the course a few more trial runs told us that we needed to reset the course...This went on until late in the day as the conditions changed drawtically until they got it RIGHT! (and left around 5:30 - possibly setting the longest set-up day in history)

We had help from a few new faces who came out and stayed most of the day helping move cones and testing the course. Patric Hansbury brought a few friends who helped out quite a bit. I apologize for not mentioning all who helped by name; I was distracted.

The course was open and flowing with lots of fun sprinkled in. There were a couple of rough spots that we just couldn't design around. My apologies to any who took a hard bounce (like I did while riding along).

Much fun. and again thanks to all who helped out. Whew, one down (hopefully the toughest).
Charlie Guthrie

Yes. Thanks to all who helped before and after. Great course design for the conditions as well. Sorry again for the magnets and stuff. But we'll bring them to the next event.

Thanks to everyone who made the event happen, it was a blast. Wish I could have stuck around to help pack up and clean but I had to get home to watch my daughter blow out 3 candles on her birthday cake!

It's been quite some time since I last ran (1 1/2 years? something like that)... A few observations:

- NO4 got FAST!
- Kourosh is The New Kevin. FTD, FTC 1&2. ie the guy that leaves all of us wondering how the frack did he do that? So what, Kevin, you scared? That why you didn't show? I'd love to see the 2 of you co-driving the same car sometime :)
- Dustin can always do more with less. (bastard)
- Knobby snow tires DO seem to be killer in wetish mud
- We need more women at the events. Let's keep striving for this to be a family friendly affair!
- Has the rallycross program become less novice friendly? Or was it the weather / early date / Valentine's day thing? I guess attendance was down last year too, right? What's going on? It's still as ridiculously fun as ever.
- This year's rallycross VPs look like they are going to do a hell of a job.
- TS98 is now 12 years old but still seems to do the job :)
- Whammy tubes continue to kick ass for rallycross use!
- What the hell happened to all the General Lei drivers????
- The Outback Sport is the new Spec Rallycross Car. Remember everyone --- I did it first :)

Who's got pictures?

Great event... The course was sloppy and slow in the morning but it was just about perfect in the afternoon.

I was actually happy with the attendance considering it was valentines, and we expected it to be wet and muddy.

I would like to see more families and spectators. I think it's important to have dedicated spectating areas and that first timers be teamed up with experienced drivers for a couple of passes.

I had an idea as well. I call it the "First Time Free" program. It's simple. Join THSCC, and your first rallyx is free. Existing members and previous rallyx participants excluded. The club gets more members and the rallyx program hopefully enjoys additional attendance.

Thanks for the kind words mike. Hahaha. I'm far from the new Kevin lol. The key is no cones. Unless youre Sebastian, then you can hit 4-5 and still be at the top. Dammit!!

Had a blast. Learned a lot. Good spectators. We need some pics! :)
