Donnie, pending the OK of the other 5 or so people here you can consider the scales sold.

All - Any objections to these? Once we get the model # let's give it 24 hours or so.

Actually, my scales are the SW650 model. Jason, I got your email, but I'm firm on the price, especially since these are $1700 new. That doesn't include the really nice box I have for these, either. You will appreciate it.

given that they're the sw650 model (not the sw500 as i thought), $850 sounds good to me.

Who do you consider is your short list in the buyers group? I may be able to swing an extra 100 before the end of the year.

Can't we just roll it back on the ramps, then back on the scales, vice using swivel plates?

We've also got a set of these:

http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/produc ... RecID=4596

That we'd probably be willing to sell if you guys are interested. You just jack one side of the car, insert a set. Then jack the other side, insert the set. Then roll onto pads. You've got to be damned careful not to roll the car off, though.

Also, FWIW, the box that I'm including with the scales (at $850) cost $400 on its own. The moving dolly is NOT included, however. But you want that box for the kind of swapping around you guys are going to do, I assure you.

These plates are really nice if you have a lift that uses arms to raise the car, too. I think that's what Mike has, right?

Well, Mike has the lift. As for me and possibly the rest of the crowd, we're without lift  I guess some kind of low ramp is needed. Can we make that out of some 2x6's? I can shallow cut some wood if needed.

That's what I was thinking. Let's hold off on any other purchases for now until we see what works and what doesn't. I'm sure it will be easy to make some ramps to drive up onto the scales. It's only 2.5" tall, only issue is that 2x's are 1.5". But I'm sure some trim pieces out there are 1" exact.

Lemme try some ascii art. Something like this where the top piece is a bevel cut 2x10 and the bottom piece is a straight 1" trim piece(s).

I'll provide the ramps. I can get two sets of 2.5" race ramps that we can use.

I'm interested in buying in too. The 911 needs another corner balance.

Just as an FYI, scales aren't nearly as useful unless they are level. That's what the platforms are for. Most people won't have a VERY level concrete pad to put them on. Even most garage floors aren't really good enough when you think about how accurate you can get things with threaded body shocks.

So you really need *something* that's relatively easy to level. Big platforms have their advantages, but moving from house to house easily isn't one of them. These small platforms *do* have that advantage.

Plus, it's very hard on scales to drive on and off. It's very hard to push a car on and off, too, unless you have fairly long ramps. But with these independent platforms you just jack one side, slide platform under tires, set down. Repeat on other side. You guys gotta think about how often you might want to use these by yourself versus when you'll have help. It's not feasible to push a car on and off using ramps by yourself, even if they're long enough for you to PHYSICALLY do it. Too easy to overshoot. Seen it too many times WITH enough helpers. But with the small platforms, you CAN do it by yourself relatively safely.

Yes, you do need to have leveled them and marked them on the floor before you do that, but that's easily done with some tape. You can get a laser level from Lowes or Home Depot for not a ton of money to help level them.

Adding to Donnie's comments:

The stiffer the springs, the more sensitive to level (less collar movement to change corner weight)

All 4 scales need to be level to each other

1/8 peg board makes decent lightweight shims

Mark the floor where each pad goes after finding level to save work next time

Don't forget that tire diameters need to be the same side to side or you will have unintended weight jacking (I think :? ) Probably not an issue with same size/brand/model radials as with my bias ply slicks, but something to check. Watch out for lumps of other people's rubber or stones.

I'm surprised that Mike doesn't have a place on his shop floor where he poured epoxy deep enough inside a retainer to make a level surface
