I am looking for a machine shop where I can have the hub face of a pair of wheels machined 1mm each. This is to make a pair of wheels stock legal for my S2000. I have spoken with a couple people already today and not been able to find anyone yet. Any help would be much appreciated. TIA.

Team Highball did some for me years ago. Dennis Shaw may have the milling machine that was used.

I found a place. Hamilton Machine Works in Raleigh said they could do it. T Hoff recommended I call them.

Keith - keep in mind that the stock class offset allowance is 1/4" (as opposed to 6 mm), meaning you probably only need to get 0.65 mm machined instead of 1 mm. Not a huge difference, but probably worthwhile from the standpoint of wheel integrity/strength.

Very good point. I am going to talk to the guy more at length once I actually get the wheels. I wanted to make sure there was a local place to do it before I ordered the wheels.

Hey Keith, if you get some pricing on that, hit me up with a PM with it. Thanks - AB

I am going to call them back tomorrow about a price so I will let you know a ballpark since I assume they won't give me an exact price until actually doing it.

I really don't want to take that chance at Nationals. Would you want to get DSQ'ed over that after driving 6+ hours to a National event or the almost 20 hours it takes to get to Lincoln?

I understand where Keith is coming from. Locally would it matter that much? Likely not, but if I was running this and knew it was out of spec, then I would know I am cheating, as minor as it may seem.

Now, at the National level, Keith goes out and runs awesome and wins Nationals. Everyone who owns an S2000 knows that the wheels are out of spec, unless machined. It's easy to see if the wheel had been modified to make it legal. For $50, the 2nd place person protests Keith and he loses his National championship over .65mm. Sure, seems ridiculous, but if I were in 2nd, I would protest him if I knew he was illegal.

So Keith saves $200 on machine work to know his car is illegal and risk losing tires at events or worse yet, his reputation. - AB

This.

Not only that, these wheels are commonly known to have the offset they've got out of the box. There's only a small number of wheel models out there that are stock class legal for an AP2 S2000, and without the machining, these aren't one of them. Turning up to a big event with them on the car sort of asks for the offset to be measured. So, yes, it's definitely worth the money to get them machined to spec.

See, don't you guys want to go to Nationals now?

Exactly as Aaron and Karl said above. I only need to have 2 wheels machined so it won't be a huge deal. I will probably have them take the full mm off so I am on the safe side. I know in ES you could run a Kosei K1-TS in 14x6 but it was off by the same 1 mm outside of stock allowances. I heard of one or two people that got protested for not machining the wheels when they showed up at a big event.

The premise is not that it is a performance advantage but that if you are willing to cheat on something so obvious then people start to wonder what else is done to your car that is not legal.

I always wonder why people are so against actually complying with the rules. I guess I am a rules Nazi. - AB
