I understand where Keith is coming from. Locally would it matter that much? Likely not, but if I was running this and knew it was out of spec, then I would know I am cheating, as minor as it may seem.
Now, at the National level, Keith goes out and runs awesome and wins Nationals. Everyone who owns an S2000 knows that the wheels are out of spec, unless machined. It's easy to see if the wheel had been modified to make it legal. For $50, the 2nd place person protests Keith and he loses his National championship over .65mm. Sure, seems ridiculous, but if I were in 2nd, I would protest him if I knew he was illegal.
So Keith saves $200 on machine work to know his car is illegal and risk losing tires at events or worse yet, his reputation. - AB
This.
Not only that, these wheels are commonly known to have the offset they've got out of the box. There's only a small number of wheel models out there that are stock class legal for an AP2 S2000, and without the machining, these aren't one of them. Turning up to a big event with them on the car sort of asks for the offset to be measured. So, yes, it's definitely worth the money to get them machined to spec.
See, don't you guys want to go to Nationals now?
