I have a ~$35 Prestone branded box that I've had for at least 5 years and it still works great. It works so well that a year or so ago I bought another Prestone branded unit to replace it since I knew it was gonna die soon. The new box is dead, lasted about 4 months, while the old one is still going strong.
Can't help with the inverter function, none of mine have had it.
