Hey all,

So I am still working on/over the E30 project car and have gotten into the fuel system for review/replace issues. The injectors appear to be original (and given the pretty thorough documentation) haven't been serviced (270k on the odo)...

I've read about some injector cleaning services (cruiznperformance.com, Mr Injector etc) but haven't heard of anyone local who can do this. Any recommendations? As an aside, I see that most places do an ultrasonic cleaning...Is this u/s cleaner fundamentally any different than the $50 one I can buy at Brookstone?

Thanks in advance!

I ordered a set of injector for the Porsche from that site ( Bosch page ).
http://www.fuelinjector.citymaker.com/p ... 511825.htm
I know they are not local but i got a good service and the car run better.

Steven,

I've used RC Engineering and CruzinPerformance in the past for injector cleaning, and based on my experience, I would recommend CruzinPerformance. Cruzin is basically a one-man operation, and Rich impressed me as a straight-shooter with fair pricing.

RC charges a good bit more, apparently based on the way they used to market their cleaning program as not only cleaning, but also "balancing" your injectors. They made it sound as if they did something to the injectors to equalize the flowrates within your set. When I started pressing them on exactly what they do, it took some work, but I finally got them to admit the injectors are flow balanced only as a result of being cleaned, they are just returned to their original flow rates as a result of cleaning only, nothing more. I just checked their website again out of curiosity, and now they give the straight information, apparently got called too many times on their "balancing" claim.

Unfortunately, I know nothing about the cleaning solution these guys use for injectors. If there's a way to confirm it's the same stuff as you get with the $50 ultrasonic equipment, that option sounds like a reasonable alternative to sending them out for cleaning service, assuming you can apply on/off voltage to the injectors while cleaning (to open and close them during the cleaning process).

Thanks for the tips and input...

Sounds like Cruzin performance is the better choice. I was hoping for a local alternative to avoid spending for shipping, but for $10-12 per injector it is still a fair price for the service.

Jason, it'll probably still be awhile before it shows up to the track. I've been doing maintenance work and repair on it as time allows, which has been scarce the past few months. I think once I've gone over the fuel system I'll be reasonably comfortable with the reliability of the car so that I can drive it to/from HPDEs without much concern. There are some events in Sept and October that I'd like to be able to attend, but it's not written in stone...In the meantime, I've been taking the Subaru to autoX events which has been a lot of fun!

Thanks again,

I used Advanced Fuel Injectors in Advance, NC

http://www.advancedfuelinjection.net/

Cost was less than $100 for 6 BMW injectors. They said they were so dirty they had to clean them twice. They also provided me with what the flows were per injector. Before sending, I placed each one in a labeled baggie for traceability. I think the whole transaction from sending to receiving back was within a week.

Thanks Kevin...

Their shop is near some of my family, so maybe I can combine trips! I think my injectors haven't been serviced or replaced in their 273,000 mile existence, so there's no telling how many times mine will have to be cleaned!

PS--how's your specE30 build coming?

Got the front suspension in.

Got the motor, clutch and tranny installed in the painted engine bay (white!). Still gotta install the rad and get an electric fan to install. Got to finish under the hood wiring.

Got the back half of the cock pit and cage painted.

I have to finish figuring out the dash and wiring under the dash install this weekend. Then I can finish painting the interior - can't install the dash by myself without scratching the hell out of the cage paint. I just can't see painting anymore until I know how the dash goes in for the last time.

Once I complete installing the dash, getting the seat and steering wheel in will be cake. I have already designed and fab'd my seat mounting brackets. Then I'll have to drill holes and fab backup plates for installing the harness. Then it will start looking like a race car!

Have yet to do brakes. Need new MC and have to rebuild all 4 calipers. Then I'll have to bleed brakes and clutch.

Have to drop out the rear end and rear subframe to install the rear suspension.

Gotta paint the front fenders, hood & other front end parts and then reinstall. I'm gonna try for a Rustoleum Pro semi gloss white paint job. Oh yeah, I need a new front windshield too.

I'll try to get a few pics up tomorrow when I take a break.

...so it looks to me like you're almost done, right?

I bet your car's going to look great when it's done. Hope you're enjoying the process--there's extra confidence in a car when you know the details of every nut, bolt etc...

Looking forward to the pics!

Sent out the injectors to Cruzin Performance a couple weeks ago. Very fast turnaround, clear communication, fairly priced including shipping. quite pleased with the results, and wouldn't have any qualms with recommending them if you find yourself in a similar situation.

http://cruzinperformance.com/injcleaned ... howinjdata
ID 5104
injector number 908301-908306

Should be a link to the before and after metrics for the injector flow rate/volume spray pattern. Fair amount of difference, IMO. New pintle caps and O-rings for all injectors.

So, now that I've got new internal and external fuel pumps, new hoses and cleaned up injectors, cleaned and treated FI connectors I may--actually--have--a car that is prepared for duty! That is, until I started hearing the throwout bearing during some shakedown driving over the last few days (smacks forehead) It's a good thing I like working on cars as much as I like driving them!
