so a friend of mine has a 2004 F-150 with the 5.4l motor. it has 70k on it and it siezed the other day. the initial diagnosis was the motor was not oiling. what may have caused this? she maintained regular oil change intervals. 5-6k changes at a Jiffy lube type place.

ok, since you didn't mention it, I will go with the obvious... Lack of oil? Did they measure how much drained out before they diagnosed the engine?

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

What he said. JL has been known to leave the oil plug out ALTOGETHER on more than one occassion. A friend of mine works for the company that insures them (local to me) and they had to pay more than one claim to a new engine on their behalf.

x3. Had a friend asking me to check her oil because the oil light kept coming on. She said no way it could be low, because it was just changed at Jiffy Lube. I had to add 4 quarts to bring it up to full. Drain plug was in there, but they had forgotten to re-fill.

Also, mentioned to a friend that his auto trans was acting weird. He shrugged it off, and said that he had just had the fluid changed at Jiffy Lube. It quit working at all in Drive a few days later, so he asked me for help. After we added about 4 quarts of ATF, it started working again.

Needless to say, I don't advocate Jiffy Lube. :)

When I worked at Japan Direct I cant tel you how many engine and trans we sold cause of jiffy lube(one of our best customers) lol

Heard about them taking the trans plug out for the oil plug then overfilling the oil and never checking and letting it go with no trans fluid and leaving the plugs out all togehter and wheew many many more.

without breaking out the college sociology books.....

Common.... How hard is it too change oil? Is it a problem with the generation within the workforce, or have there always been nimrods who don't give a rats ass about the finished product.

In there defense, it must be "interesting" to see a wide array of cars/trucks of all years and makes. With that said..... there is a pit with everything automated at there fingertips.

a JL in Bangor, Maine overfilled by 2 quarts, in a 2.2 liter legacy. I caught it before we left the parking lot, as the technician who worked on the car had the look of a genuine nimrod.

alright some more info. oil level was fine. apparent bearing failure top and bottom, no compression in #4, low compression in #2 & #8. or something along those lines per the Tech at Crossroads.
