Nope. I recommend you just throw them away and get new ones. It is more than likely built up pad deposits. You could try just sanding them with 100 grit sand paper. Turning rotors ends up costing me more than it is worth. Usually the places that do it cheap screw them up. Just an opinion.

In North Raleigh you can try Walker parts store. Corner of Wake Forest and Six Forks. In the mall where Overtons is. They have a machine shop that does good work. There is Carquest on Millbrook. They have a good machine shop.

I'll agree that turning rotors is a bad idea. I had my rotors turned on the 3 and within weeks they were warped again. At $20/rotor to get them turned, it just doesn't make sense to risk it, just buy new ones. If your talking about rotors for an NSX, maybe the economics case makes a little more sense, but then again, you're now talking about rotors for an exotic, not an economy car, in which case I'd DEFINITELY not cheap out on the brakes.

Just as Graham said, rotors RARELY warp, most of the time its pad deposits and A light sanding will cure the supposed warp. Unless the rotors are grooved try sanding them.

thanks graham. they are not warped, just have lots of pad deposits and are rather grooved so sanding is somewhere between difficult and impossible. don't get me wrong, i'm not a big fan of turning them but at $300 a pop it's worth the attempt to extend their life a little longer, even if that means only using them as emergency spares or for occasional street use (with street pads).

I love to see posts like this, makes me satisfied to drive a Mini. They had some rotors for a GT3 on SALE at CDOC, $425! AT $37 for my fronts it helps me feel ok about being passed by faster cars!

$300 apiece! At that price I might try having them turned.

glad i can make you feel good :) the nsx came with a racingbrake bbk when i bought it, the previous owner installed it. works well enough, power is great and fade is non-existant but the rotors are expensive. they're two piece so it's possible to replace just the outer ring (still $200) but i've heard that it's difficult to install to install them on the hat perfectly straight. we'll see how a turn job does, if necessary i'll take the next step. plus i have a second set of fronts to tinker with.

I see your dilemna Jason. All the BBKs for my car have ridiculously priced rotor assemblies. Same thing. 2 piece with rings going for $300. The really sad part is on track they crack just like the cheap NAPA blanks I buy. Stoptech, Brembo, Wilwood, PFC. Big names and big $$$ but their rotors don't last long. Great bling for the street though if you get them drilled and slotted

:Rant On:
It used to cost me $26/ea for NAPA blanks for the Z06 fronts. Since they closed the foundry in IL and Canada. Now they are all made in China. Costs me double. Must be the shipping... Uggghhhh....
:Rant Off:

yes indeed, i'm just coming off a four day mid-ohio trip. the morning of day #3 i'm inspecting my brakes and the front rotors show more surface cracking than i was comfortable with so i swapped them out and put on the street rotors that were mated with hp+ pads. but i foolishly kept the ht10 pads which didn't get along with the hp+ rotor film and i wound up with pretty bad shudder when hot. tried pushing thru it to no avail, it just got worse. in hindsight i should have run the hp+ pads since mid-ohio is pretty easy on brakes but such is life, and a lesson learned.

having said that, those front rotors had a lot of track miles on them, it's not like they started cracking after two sessions. i'm not unhappy with their performance, just the price.

Drop off at any Car Quest: If you are in North Raleigh the one on MillBrock
Rd has the brake lathe.
If you have a set of high dollar thick rotors, one pass on the lathe
will extend their service life. I think its a good idea to clean them up when
you change pad material types as well.

Any Car Quest: If you are in North Raleigh the one on MillBrock
Rd has a brake lathe. If you have thick racing type rotors, I drop my
Colemans off at the German Town Road location as there is where the
machine shop and hand them to one of the machinist. As long as the
hats are installed, he can cut them on the lathe. I have had both
floating and non-floating hats done with perfectly good results.
If you have rotors like OEM Corvette or most metric sizes they are
throw away items and not intended to be machined.
