Nothing like a rollin' science project!
The only thing I saw questionable was the lack of a headlight - you can replace them, but delete one? Oh yeah, I think that's the new headlight delete rule, right?

I can't say nuthin' about his backwards hood scoop...I got 3!
So I ended up taking the crank to TAZ (really TAS) Racing Engines. The proprieter, Troy, does work for some of the guys where I work. Hell, he even knew what VIR was! He's a little more than Brinkley, but he said he'd do 3 things;
Clean the crank, mic it and polish it (with a repeat mic after polishing) where Brinkley only talked about mic'ing and polishing.
I should be able to get it tomorrow afternoon, but I'll start calling tomorrow a.m. for "encouragement"

He know's I really need to confirm journal diameters tomorrow a.m. so I can get the right bearings ordered.
I confirmed with Mazda Motorsport today that the 1.6L crank diameters are the same as the 1.8L. Troy also said he has a "crank table" that has all that kind of information.
So this weekend the burnt piston motor (aka The Junkyard Dog) comes out in preparation for re-cranked motor(aka Bad Kahrma) to be reinstalled.
Has anybody changed a motor in a Miata and left the tranny in? I have a scissors type tranny jack I can support the tranny at the bell housing with. The hurdle I see is getting the clutch to line up with input shaft of the transmission. If I could change the motor without removing the transmission, I think it might be a quicker job, provided getting the motor to line up with the tranny doesn't turn into a major hastle. Putting transmissions back in
SUX.
Oh gawd! I just saw the hatch in the hardtop. I think either it's some new type of ram air conditioning, or it's a midget escape hatch!
It actually looks like he has "mini" projector beams stuck in the hole. I guess he didn't want to spoil the clean look of his car with the popups
