Friend of mine from work is gonna come out. I've got absolutely no clue on this one.

1968 Triumph GT6 coupe original engine, chassis, etc. but with the rear tub replaced with a '74 spitfire body. Prepared? Modified? He's not worried about being competitive, just having fun in it.

GP? But that requires a rollbar.

he doesn't have a rollbar. . .

This is definitely a strange one, I'm tempted to just have him sign up for A-Mod and call it a day. Its not like there is gonna be anyone in his class to compete against, although he will probably run in novice class, and I'd like for him to at least have SOME remote shot at a trophy.

When I was very much younger and had a Spitfire, I wondered what it takes to do this. The Spit/GT6 is just a solid chassis with a bolt-on body, so technically it shouldn't be that big a deal. Heck, it's essentially what the Triumph factory did with the Herald and Spitfire anyway.

Then you get a GT6 motor/driveline in a nice convertible, sounded like a win/win to me.

Obviously I never did it. I'm very glad someone actually has! I really look forward to seeing this one.

I can't see any reason why this isn't SSM legal. There *may* be some minor things that doesn't meet the letter of the rule, but probably meets the intent (that bolt on body parts are open). He'll want to make sure he meets minimum weight, but I'm guessing it already does. SSM PAX isn't great, but it's way better than A-Mod.

I should have phrased it as "he's going to race the car he's got, regardless of class" as opposed to saying he's not interested in being competitive.
