hi all. as you may or may not know, my sentra gave up SAT. I have nasty rod knock..... i think it is a bearing spun. Advice for how to replace the spun bearings? thank you. Also, yes that was me in the powerstroke four door during parade laps sunday.

spun bearing = engine rebuild or replacement

We can make this a long drawn-out thread but that pretty much sums it up.

IMHO, your options are:

1- rebuild current engine
2- replace current engine with good used engine from a junkyard or a parts car

You can't just expect to replace spun engine bearings and go- it's not that simple. Unless you live in Cuba.

Or are named Mike Whitney...

In rare cases you can drop the oil pan, pop in a new set of bearings and get a little farther down the road. How far all depends on how lucky you are.

My mom has a 2003 V spec. They look at her strange when she is an 82 year old not getting into a Buick at the store. BTW her's is bright red.
She had a 94 SE-R before that. She gave the 94 to my sister.

how fragile are the trannies in a WRX.. are mods going to break it, like GRM says.. They state that any mods at all, will break it badly. how hard is the STI swap. this is why im now swinging to a 02-on sentra se-r spec V. less moving parts. more motor low down. real tractor that one.

http://www.clubwrx.net/forums/transmiss ... swaps.html

how accurate is this information

wrx trannies are as fragile as you want them to be. if you're doing 6K rpm launches for no reason, then yea its gonna give out.

if you drive it like a sane person, it will last. pretty much like any other car out there.

Not a fair comparison. There are a LOT of cars out there that will last just fine with 6k clutch dumps (other than needing occasional clutches, obviously). The WRX tranny is fragile if you do a lot of hard launches on pavement, and when it breaks, it's much more significant than a clutch. That said, if you're keeping your fun more limited to dirt then it's going to be pretty good.

i test drove a spec v nissan. it pulled like a tractor. really did. the wrx.. my father jokingly said"no hot rodding". so i misunderstood... and took him at his word.. there fore it handles awesome. better than i thought it would.. stops good. rides great. but i did not get a real good feel, for the engine of the car. i am searching for another test drive in a wrx.. to gain a better baseline.. if i do get a subie. and the tranny does fail.. then i am certainly upgrading to the sti tranny.. why replace when upgrade is there, it is already out. anyway..
however..

this is what is going on with me.
either stay 2wd.. or go awd. subies dont seem to have the torque that the nissan had. but the ability to go where iwant when i want. does appeal..
the thought process right now is really driving me nuts. gotta say. have a appointement 2morrow to test drive again the nissan spec v from MJ nissan in durham after work.. will get a better idea after that. then on to a subie MAYBE.. if i can find one that has been treated like a lady and not as a mule.
